Tori Amos; Night of Hunters,
By
This review is from: Night Of Hunters (Deluxe CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
Well this CD was a surprise. I always expect Tori to march to her own drum & she has done that again with this CD. It is clearly classical in nature so for those thinking this is going to be a mainstream commercial CD of Tori's a word of warning it is not. However it is still an excellent CD; carefully crafted with some amazing classical musicians & wonderful vocal accompaniments as well. The CD packaging is beautiful as have most of the last few CD's that Tori has put out. They are like a present in themselves to open as attention is paid to the telling of the story that unfolds in the CD. For customers who enjoy classical music; they will enjoy this CD. It isn't exclusively classical but actually when I first listened to it I felt like I was in a theatre in England back in time & was both watching & listening to a current play. The lyrical writing is really amazing on this CD as well & I'm sure being an artist one wants to switch it up every now & then for the creative spirit most artists have. With Tori; when she does this you see how truly artistically gifted she is & no doubt hear the intelligence in the lyrics which only come from someone with a high intellectual IQ. Give it a listen for those who love classical music, instrumental music & music that comes from a higher thought process than "Hit me baby one more time"!

Pleasant listening,
This review is from: Night Of Hunters (Audio CD)
A rather beautiful album, but lacking the edginess that I normally associate with Tori. Lovely orchestral work, but the messages of the songs are lost within the obscure methaphors that are used throughout. Disappointing, simply because I was expecting something different.

Haunting melodies,
This review is from: Night Of Hunters (Deluxe CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
I've enjoyed her music from the beginning of her career, but had a preference for the earlier, more acoustic/simpler sounds. I was pleasantly surprised that Tori had gone back to a more melodic sound. Great listening for a chilly fall drive through the woods.
