PRAISE FOR SHERRILYN KENYON

"Kenyon is the reigning queen of the vampire novel."--Barbara Vey, Publishers Weekly

“An engaging read.”—Entertainment Weekly on Devil May Cry

“Kenyon’s writing is brisk, ironic, sexy, and relentlessly imaginative. These are not your mother’s vampire novels.”—The Boston Globe on Dark Side of the Moon

Product Description

In Night Pleasures, Kyrian of Thrace---an immortal who protects humans from vampires---wakes up one morning handcuffed to the one thing that can scare him: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. But Amanda Devereaux turns out to be his perfect partner for hunting down a deadly foe, and for helping him to regain his soul and learn that love doesn't have to bite.

Night Embrace spins the story of Talon, an ancient Celtic warrior who killed the son of the god Camulus. Camulus cursed Talon, decreeing death for everyone he loved. Now a Dark-Hunter in modern-day New Orleans, Talon meets Sunshine, who is key to ending his curse once and for all. Not to mention helping him to save New Orleans from an ancient god bent on total destruction....

Enter a realm like none you've ever experienced with Night Pleasures and Night Embrace. Now together in one volume!

4.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't think of a clever title, Aug 18 2011
By Coral Moore - Published on Amazon.com
I can't believe it took me this long to pick up these books. The name Sherrilyn Kenyon is practically synonymous with Paranormal Romance. I saw this two for one bundle, and figured I'd try out the pair to see what all the fuss was about.

The experience left me largely torn. There were some wonderful aspects of these books, and one really bad facet that made me want to throw things.

What I liked:
The characters. I dug them, a lot. In fact, I think if anything keeps me coming back to this series, it will be to figure out what happens to Acheron. I was hugely intrigued by his character, more so than the hero/heroine in each book. Nick was another secondary character I loved. Kenyon can definitely spin a character that makes me interested, which is a big, huge plus.

The idea. I really liked the premise of soulless heroes brought back from death to defend humans from demons. Learning about the heroes' histories was another plus. I enjoyed that historical aspect to each of her books. I also love the nods to various types of mythology.

What I disliked:
Head hopping. These books are the mother of all head hoppers. The constant, abrupt shifts, sometimes several times within a scene made me endlessly annoyed. My real frustration is that if it weren't for this one thing, these would be the best paranormal romance I've read this year. I can only hope that someone eventually told her how aggravating this was to some people and later on down the series it gets better.

Lack of antagonist motivation. It seemed like, in these two books at least, the bad guys were just being bad to create chaos. I guess that's okay, but I like my evil a little more sinister I guess, rather than just bad for the sake of it.

Originally I'd decided on four stars, but writing about the head hopping made me so angry I changed my mind to three. Rest assured, it's somewhere between three and four and the actual number depends on my mood the instant I post this. I will keep reading (at least for a few books) because I like her characters and the world she's building.

This is a must read for paranormal romance fans, and very high on the vampire smut scale, all things considered. If head hopping bothers you, maybe stay away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Night Pleasures/Night Embrace doubles your pleasure, Mar 26 2008
By K Mirus "Kiki" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Night Pleasures/Night Embrace (Paperback)
A co-worker of mine turned me on to Sherrilyn Kenyon a couple of months ago with the book "Night Pleasures" and that got me hooked on her Dark-Hunter series. So I went out and ordered the Night Pleasures/Night Embrace combo.

If you like hot, powerful, immortals with tortured pasts, strong sexual tension, snappy banter and a happy ending, then you'll dig her stuff. I just like her whole take on this unique realm of supernatural creatures called Dark-Hunters, not quite vampires or Gods, but somewhere in between. She really draws you into their world and does a great job bringing them to ours. Early into it, you wish you could really meet one of these guys.

It's a very erotic series. I've read three of the books in the series so far and loved them, but I have to admit the storylines are a little repetitive. They're still thoroughly enjoyable, though, if you want something fun, sexy and angsty. They're a wonderful escape and well worth your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jan 6 2008
By Lisa Prior "suteko" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Night Pleasures/Night Embrace (Paperback)
I can honestly say I LOVE this series. I have read and reread this book and all of the companion books. Once I found out that Sherrilyn was also writing under Kinley MacGregor I picked up as many as I coudl afford. This woman is a serious talent and I look forward to each new release with baited breath!
