Armand Coeck is relatively well known as a contemporary composer of classical guitar music. This CD collects his compositions for cello, played by his student Vercruysse. In several of the tracks, the cello is accompanied by one or two acoustic guitars.
The result is a CD full of very enjoyable, tasteful yet intense instrumental music. The greatest moments are when Coeck merges sounds and patterns from medieval madrigals, Spanish flamenco and romantic cello pieces into his own brand of modern-day classical music.
This would make a fantastic, very atmospheric movie soundtrack. Someone really ought to send this CD to Pedro Almodovar!
