I upgraded to this router from Asus RT-N56U which was also a great router but I needed something with higher speed over longer distance. For that purpose, this is the best I could get at the time of the purchase. I have placed this in the basement and I don't have any problem with the signal any where in my 2 story 1700 sq ft house.

Pros:
- Better signal over longer distance
- No signal drops
- Stable firmware
- Able to handle heavy loads without any issue

Cons:
- USB storage is still not very good even at this price. Transfer speed to the attached HDD is slow and the copying files sometimes fail. Heard some issues with file corruptions too but I haven't seen that yet. Fingers crossed.
- Admin GUI could be better.

Overall, this is a great router and I would recommend this definitely. I used the DD-WRT (Kong) firmware on this for a while but was facing signal drops so went back to the Netgear firmware and it is stable now.

Totally satisfied. I have at times like 10 cel phones connected when my kids and their friends are at honme, plus 3 tV's streaming video, xbox, games,3 computers etc,. This product solved all my problems. I have Shaw extreme so you know but this thing is quick and goes everywhere. I like many other people had a D-Link DIR 601 router and just kept experimenting a lot of stuff including an Actiontec Powerline Adapter Kit I put in just to get the signal going from my old router to one TV downstairs. Paid $60 something dollars to solve the problem for one of my 15 devices in the house with this device. I read all the reviews for the NightHawk and was not wrong when I did this buy. I still need to learn when and how to use the 5 GHZ option, the USB ports, etc.

This is a pretty stable router even with the stock firmware. There is a tomato and dd-wrt build for this router but mine runs so smoothly with the stock firmware that I saw no reason to change it.
As for the corrupted usb files, it sounds like perhaps a permissions problem with the drive, had a similar issue with my buffalo nas.
Try formatting the drive and this time copy files to it connected to the usb ready share port from your computer to the drive.

Well that was disappointing. After the impressive reviews and high ratings, there is a fatal flaw in this Netgear product that appears to extend to ALL of their routers in recent years. The Readyshare service that allows sharing a USB drive over the network inexplicably corrupts files beyond recovery. I have lost over 100GB of data, both large and small files. The files appear to copy over successfully, but subsequently vanish. Possibly related to this problem, the media server feature is also unusable.

What's really disappointing is that the file corruption problem has been reported all over Netgear forums and other forums since 2012... with no working solution in sight. Netgear is undoubtedly aware of this problem, but has done nothing to fix it. Lesson learned: check forum posts before investing in expensive hardware.

I still have to reset (unplug) this router every now and then, but otherwise, it works well. The range is pretty decent, the best I've had in our house. The signal is pretty strong, even on other floors or our house.

The controls software (Netgear Genie) is pathetic, though. There are few controls and you can only change options when on the network itself. You can't manage device options, etc. as easily as with other products out there. I've used Linksys Smart Wifi previously and it was sooo much better.

There are 2 current routers in this router's league. One by Linksys and one by Asus. I will let other reviews online give you the technical details and the head-to-heads. I jumped on this because I have been happy with Netgear routers and this was on sale. The devices that I had that were struggling to find signal with my WNDR3700, which is a fantastic unit in its own right, have full bars on 5GHz with this one. So far, I am very happy.

I'm just an amateur when it comes to computer stuff usually I can figure things out. I have had this Nighthawk Ac 1900 made by Netgear for about a week now and was it ever easy to set up and does it ever work well. I can roam all around my house now and NOT lose my Wireless Connection and it is set up in my basement I can also walk all around my yard front to back and I still have a an amazing connection It's always on full strength it never even drops one bar. I'm very happy with this Netgear Nighthawk Ac 1900 it is worth every penny I spent on it. The Nicest thing was it is so easy to set up.

The best router ever ! I bought this one as a replacement for my Rosewill RNX-N4PS because I had many troubles with devices deconnecting constantly. The poor guy was probably overloaded with too many devices. Now I have plenty of power, everybody is happy and I have the feeling this is really the best !
