exceeded my expectations,

This review is from: A Nightmare on Elm Street [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
this remake of the classic horror film was much better than i had hoped or anticipated it would be.it wasn't as good as the original, but it was still not bad.the acting was decent enough.they changed the character of Freddy Krueger so he wasn't a carbon copy of the original.the story is fleshed out a bit more.the original had a slight bit of camp feeling to it.this version does not.Jackie Earle Haley did a good job as Freddy, and put his own stamp on the character, though no one can replace Robert England as the original.you could do a lot worse with your time than spending 90 minutes watching this film.for me,A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)is a 4/5

First a little info - this is a reboot of the original Nightmare on Elm Street, so it doesn't follow any of the previous movies, however there are quite a few similarities, particularly with the first Nightmare on Elm Street. If you have any doubts that someone other than Robert Englund could pull off Freddy Krueger, let me set this straight - Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger is just sheer perfection. I have much respect for Englund's past performances as Krueger, but I can honestly say that Haley is the best Krueger. The story is similar to the original (makes sense, it's a reboot) but it's definitely been "modernized". However, sometimes the story drags it's feet a little between kills. Having said that, the kills are pretty awesome. The acting was good for a horror movie - take that as you'd like. I have two complaints: 1) No nudity - sometimes a pair of boobs helps me get from one boring scene to the next, but the only excitement in this movie was derived from the kills, and they were a bit too few and far between. 2) Not enough Freddy scenes - don't get me wrong, he's in there - just not as much as he deserved. A little too much focus on his victims (before they became victims). Watch this movie if you loved the old Nightmare on Elm Street movies, Jackie Earle Haley or horror movies (particularly slasher flicks) in general. Fingers crossed for a sequel!

disappointed,

This review is from: A Nightmare on Elm Street (DVD)
well going into this film, i had only watched 20-30 minutes of the original film, which this movie more/less matched. it semi-explained the story of freddy but there was something about it that annoyed me. maybe it was the dialogue. maybe it was the plot (or lack there of). maybe it was the pace. or maybe it was the fact that FREDDY DIDN'T LOOK LIKE FREDDY. i watched freddy vs jason and the freddy in this film looked nothing like the one i saw in freddy vs jason. nevermind that the charactor development didn't really happen until about half way through the film, and the freddy in this film liked children, whereas the original charactor didn't. they only positive i can find in the film was it had decent special effects and the last maybe 20 minutes was good. and this coming from someone that was excited to see the film. if you watch this film, go in with low expectations.
