Product Description

From Amazon.com

Canadian power-pop superstars Sloan celebrate their dominance with this double-live-CD set, recorded largely during a multi-evening stand at a Toronto theater. Most of 4 Nights of the Palais Royale's meaty performances at least equal their studio versions, with a stripped-down "Everything You've Done Wrong" and a cranking "Money City Maniacs" among the highlights. The single most impressive moment, though, may be when the band adapts the noisy psychedelic extravaganza "Anyone Who's Anyone" to the requirements of the stage. Throughout, Sloan is likable, smart, and tough-minded, deserving of the enthusiasm that radiates from the audiences. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars Sloan creates a pop pleasure free of "bubblegum" beats., Jun 3 2000
This review is from: 4 Nights At The Palais Royale (Audio CD)
In this day and age of pre-fab "bubblegum" bands with lyrics lacking any power or originality this two volume live set by Sloan is a truly welcome treat for the ears. Though this was recorded live each track is flawless and the audience participation and bantering between band members did not detract in any way from the musical experience quite the contrary it made it all the more intense. This band truly connects with both their audience and their music. Taking inspiration from both the 60's and 70's Sloan has created a unique sound that can be hard and driving as in "MoneyCity Maniacs" or persuasive and haunting like "Coax Me". If all those "be my baby" top 10 pop hits are getting you down try something a little different that will still keep ya dancing all night long and give "4 Nights" a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "love letter" to all Sloan fans, Sep 17 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 4 Nights At The Palais Royale (Audio CD)
4 Nights at the Palais Royale is the crowning element of a complete Sloan collection. This double CD truly captures the essence of a Sloan concert. Most fans, like myself, enjoy the banter between Chris, Patrick, Jay and (though infrequently) Andrew during the shows; we also enjoy the informal manner in which Sloan navigates through their set. Sloan often changes a set list at a fan's request. Sloan is a fan's band; they are accessible, humble, and overly willing to sign autographs and decipher lyrics. This album, as called by one reviewer, is a "love letter" to all Sloan fans, and if you are a HUGE fan, you probably can hear yourself screaming and chanting ON the recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Live Albums of All Time, Jan 14 2011

(HALL OF FAME)    (TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This review is from: 4 Nights At The Palais Royale (Audio CD)
From what I've heard, Sloan are supposedly notoriously sloppy live. Well, I saw 'em once and they were awesome, and likewise this live album is absolutely flawless. I don't mean "flawless" in the sense that every single note is perfect, not at all. That's impossible in a live setting. What I mean is, you can't improve this disc. It is perfect as it is.

This was from the Navy Blues tour, 2 discs, approximately an hour and 3/4 long. This is a fantastic road CD. Every single hit from the first four albums in included, no fuss no muss, no filler. Chris and the boys are as funny and entertaining as ever. Liner notes are excellent, with each members saying a few words about the songs.

Honestly, this band is very underrated live. Maybe they are inconsistent but I wouldn't know, because this album is great and so was the band when I saw them supporting Between the Bridges.

5 stars, easy.
