This first novel in a trilogy draws you in from the first page. Virginia is a lonely woman who has had rough knocks in life but keeps going. Moving to a small town is the first step, so she thinks, in pulling her life together and making a fresh start. Curiosity leads her to a fascinating old house, and that is where the rest of the story starts. I had a hard time putting this book down, and had it finished within 2 days. The history of the Musat family and its ties to the legendary Dracula provide a new twist to the legend of the vampire's creation. Virginia's struggles to return to her normal life will wring your heart, and you will keep turning the page to see what happens next. Each chapter reveals a little more about the characters, and lures you deeper into their story. I recommend this book, and its sequel "Night's Gift" to those who like a supernatural love story with many layers.

Night's Gift is like the Hotel California--a lovely stay, but you just can't (and don't want!) to leave!! It is a new spin on the classic vampire; there are no sparkles here! Bats, capes, and Old World charm meets New World curiosity to weave a sensual yet terrifying tale of what happens when curiosity kills the cat! Virginia is real--she is literally the girl next door--and her plight captures the reader, a healthy dose of real introduced to a fabulous fantasy land right in the heart of small-city Ontario! The author captivates the reader with amazing storytelling, this first book in the trilogy is the perfect introduction - make sure you buy all three at once because once you start you don't want to stop!

One of the best Canadian authors going. Take a small town, a local girl and a house known for its secrets, throw in a vampire or two, and this magnificent book is what you get as only the first in a trilogy. This will keep you interested from the first word to the last.

Mary has created an interesting spin in the Vampire genre, by giving a Canadian flavour to her stories. The cliffhanger ending leaves you anxious to read about Virginia in the next installment.
