Highly detailed reference for the D 3200. A very good format and easy to look up answers and suggestions. Illustrations are excellent. This book is a great way to find out the unique functions of the D 3200. It is a reference you can turn to that will help you consider your approach to photography, inclusive of hints and suggestions that encourage creativity and uniqueness of the instant of time captured. Unfortunately, the right corner of the book at the back arrived somewhat bent and creased.

A Good Resource April 18 2013
By howard l. stern - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
When I purchased the Nikon D3200, I also purchased three different books to help me understand how to best use the camera. This book does a good job of explaining the various camera settings and how to use them. The main fault I have with this book is that the author also wants to provide an introduction to photography in general. While I believe that laudatory, my goal was to better understand the camera. I would have preferred more discussion about the camera itself along with recommendations regarding the various settings.

New Icon Referencing System! June 18 2013
By Mary H. Gamble - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Nikon D3200 Digital Field Guide by Alan Hess
I love the new icon referencing system used in this Nikon D3200 Digital Field Guide! I highly recommend the "Digital Field Guides" in the Wiley Publishing Co. Series. I own and have used photography related Digital Field Guides, such as travel, composition, exposure, lighting and the D80 field guide . Having the new icon feature to refer to in this guide, it took away the time I had to use to research and understand functions and concepts presented in the book. The learning curve is much easier and the reinforcing of presenting the icons throughout the book made the process of learning the new camera functions much quicker as well. The author starts off with exploring the camera then moves on to functions and essentials of the camera such as automatic mode, white balance, ISO, scene modes, use of flash, etc. He thoroughly covers the menus including set up, shooting and playback. Once learning the camera, Hess also covers composition, exposure and post processing. This book is a wonderful manual replacement and reference tool! And again, LOVE the new icon feature!

Great Book! Nov. 16 2012
By Greg Poulos - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I first came across Alan's teaching style on Kelby Training. He has a way of explaining difficult subjects in plain English. Getting into photography can seem daunting, so I really was looking for a book like this.

This book helped me to get started, with concepts, with understanding the D3200, and with getting past the "auto" setting. It's organized in great chapters with information on all of the important topics. It takes you step by step around the camera and around photography!

Get this book and take your DSLR photography to the next level! I know I did.

Knowing nothing about the D3200 or photography, I purchased this book. They take it step by step an explain it in layman's terms.
