Weird game for my non-gaming daughter,
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Animal Crossing: City Folk (Video Game)
I was trying to find a video game that my daughter would be interested in. She's not into the action type stuff, like mario, or lego batman, etc. I found a hit with this title. No skill involved. You just go around and do chores like gardening, fishing, etc, and build up the town's museum. Go have coffee, look at the stars, chat with friends.Better than the disney princess tripe... Good game for a non-gaming kid. Theres a fair amount of reading involved however, so I would not recommend for anyone under about 8 years old.

Great game. You can basically do ANYTHING you want. Go fishing, bug hunting, gardening, refurbish your house, talk with your neighbours...It's a very relaxed playing style. There's no plot or strategies needed. All you have to do in the game is LIVE. A lot of people have said that the city is no good, but I for one like it. It made going to get a haircut and shopping more special. It also stopped the tedium of waiting for the fortuneteller or the fashion designer to come around, while keeping some travelling special characters. The holidays on this version are excellent too.

First of all, don't buy this game if you're the type of gamer who only wants to shoot things and level up. This is a casual game that involves no killing, strategy, grinding, or any type of work at all. It's a life simulator, and even though it's not realistic (the whole point of the game is to socialize with talking animals) it does feel like real life in a strange sort of way. The entire objective of the game is to buy a house, pay off the loan, and furnish the house all while doing odd jobs for talking animals who will become your friend. But you already know all of this if you've ever played an Animal Crossing game before. And that's where this game fails. It's basically just a port of the Nintendo DS game, which was more or less a remake of the GameCube game, which was a remake of an Nintendo 64 game. There's NOTHING new or exciting in this version, with the exception of a city. And the city sucks and could actually be considered a step in the wrong direction. Honestly, I had more fun with the GameCube version because it included NES games to collect. If you already have the GameCube version, keep it and just play it. It's the best one. If you don't have ANY Animal Crossing game, then I'd recommend buying the GameCube or Nintendo DS versions (because it's portable). This one is just useless. It's sad that Nintendo claimed this is the game that core gamers will want at E3 last year. Another disappointment.
