5.0 out of 5 stars Don't forget the extra costs, July 12 2004
This review is from: Nintendo Gamecube Console - Limited Edition Platinum (Video Game)
I recently decided between a Gamecube, a Playstation 2, and an Xbox. I was leaning toward PS2 since I already have a bunch of PS1 games, but that got me thinking; if a large part of a systems value is not only how good the games are, but also how MANY games you can play, doesn't it make sense to consider the cost of purchasing additional games?

With this new consideration, I quickly chose Gamecube. Look, a major reason the decision between the three systems is so hard is because they are all good, and they all have their own unique advantages (which are hard to compare against each other when making decisions). Maybe Xbox graphics are the best, maybe PS2 lets me play games from PS1, but I was able to buy a used Gamecube (80), a used copy of NBA 2003 (15), a used copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (9), and a new copy of Crazy Taxi (20) from Electronics Boutique. In the end, I paid only >> 4 << dollars more than getting a used PS2 with nothing.

If you want a great system, you can pick Xbox, Playstation 2, or Gamecube. If you want a great system that you can play new games in all the time (without going broke), get the Gamecube.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD system, May 9 2005
This review is from: Nintendo Gamecube Console - Limited Edition Platinum (Video Game)
I love the Gamecube! If it weren't for my mom messing up, i never ever would have nintendo, I would have playstation. Good thing she messed up! Anyway, the Gamecube has just as good graphics and games as Xbox and PS2, but, it has a way cheaper price. so which one would you buy? Gamecube started out more for kids, but now it still has a lot of kid games, it now has plenty of teen. A fare ammount of mature games, cause you don't want to many. The last thing about is the games are small, so they are harded to wreck, good for the younger kids. I'll say it again, I love the Gamecube!

[I love the Nintendo corporation, and that's why I have to be so critical in a few areas on this review.]

In late 2001, Nintendo released its latest console - The Gamecube (or GCN.) The new console would be doing battle with the other two big consoles - The Playstation 2, and the XBOX. To this day the battles for sales continue. Read on for pros and cons on this system.

PROS:
-Nintendo's first 128-bit system
-More affordable than other next-gen consoles
-Small size makes it easy to transport
-Features the most comfortable controller ever made for any system
-Large variety of games (this ISN'T just a kid's system)
-Can be connected to Game Boy Advance with some games
-Many games are available on this system only
-More powerful than the PS2
-Nintendo is the most trusted name in gaming
-With an LCD screen (sold separately,) you can make the system portable
-A reliable wireless controller is available

CONS:
-It uses discs, not cartridges. Discs can't save data, so you need a memory card. Likewise, it doesn't have a hard drive like the XBOX.
-No DVD or CDplayer. These are features considered standard on most modern consoles.
-Variety of games pales in comparison to the PS2
-Not quite as powerful a system as the XBOX
-Only includes one controller, and NO game
-Not enough "anthology" games (collections of games from past Nintendo systems)

Overall this is an excellent systems, but you may want to look the shortcomings over before you make the purchase. Still, Nintendo is the most trusted name in video gaming, and this console, in many ways, shows you why.
