Amazon.ca Product Description

Welcome to a brawl for the ages, where anything can happen, anyone can show up and all bets are off. In multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In the solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels. This action-packed fighting game features a ridiculous number of characters that have appeared on Nintendo platforms, from Mario to Link to Pikachu ... to Solid Snake! As they square off in famous locales drawn from the rich history of Nintendo, literally anything can happen - and usually does. With limitless customizing options, items and weapons that boggle the mind and a wealth of modes, this game has truly infinite replayability. Super Smash Bros. Brawl features a sprawling adventure mode called "The Subspace Emissary" that's a full game in and of itself. Players jump and brawl their way through enemy-packed side-scrolling levels, meeting up with other characters, watching incredible cinematics and taking on massive bosses. For the first time, this celebrated series is going Wi-Fi, allowing up to four players to brawl, no matter where they may be. Characters: Mario, Samus, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Solid Snake, Meta Knight, Kirby, Pikachu, Zero Suit Samus, Link, Zelda, Pit and Wario, to name just a few. Anyone and anything from a Nintendo universe could appear in this game in one form or another. Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Anything from a Nintendo game could conceivably be in this game, whether it's a musical score, an obscure item or a character that shows up to help the fighters. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is eminently customizable, so players can choose the frequency of items appearing, adjust musical scores and basically play the game however they'd like. Items range from baseball bats to proximity mines to Pok Balls to Assist Trophies, which spawn characters like Hammer Bros. and Sim City's Dr. Wright to attack others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Smash Bros Review, Jan 25 2012
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Video Game)
Fun supersmash brothers game, the controls take getting used to for me and also it is not the style game that I enjoy. This looks like a good advance for the super smash brothers series and would recommend it for fans of that with good graphics and a wide range of characters to choose from and up to 4 players.

5.0 out of 5 stars An evolution of the Super Smash Bros. genre, Mar 9 2008

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Video Game)
Within the depths of Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the answer to that eternal question: "If Mario and Link were in a game, who would win?" Brawl allows you to control characters from a myriad of Nintendo properties, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Link, Zelda, Samus, Captain Falco, and Kirby, to name a few. Along with this distinguished list of alumni, there are characters from other markets: Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series, for instance, as well as Sonic from Sega.

If you've played the original Smash Bros. for the 64, the pacing of Brawl will be familiar (Melee fans take note: gameplay is a touch slower and seemingly a bit more strategic than the Gamecube version). Classic stages from the previous two games are included, and like before, you'll be spending a slew of time unlocking various characters and stages.

A new component of Brawl is the "Final Smash." In a match, a pulsating orb will appear. Should you break open this orb, your character will gain a one-time incredibly powerful attack, the effects of which vary from character to character. Needless to say, when one appears, that's the focus of every character's attention.

Another new mode is the "Subspace Emissary" (which reminds me less of Nintendo than it does of Deep Space Nine, which my wife and I are currently watching). I haven't gone too far into this single player mode, so I don't have a lot to say about it, but suffice to say that if it's not the icing on the cake, it's certainly a very pleasant cherry off to one side.

A wide range of multiplayer options abound, including online play using Nintendo's free online service (though the friend code system is more than a bit cumbersome) and four players in front of one television set. The Wii-mote, Wii-mote & nunchuk, and traditional Gamecube controllers are all control options for the game.

All in all, this game is well worth your attention if you played the N64 or GC versions of the game, if you're interested in fighting games, or if you've any interest in all in Nintendo characters. A highly polished game that definitely deserves your attention, though it is a bit frustrating to have to unlock some of the neater characters (Sonic, for instance) rather than giving them to you up-front.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fun., Mar 25 2009
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Video Game)
Super Smash Brothers Brawl was a game that my 8 year old daughter chose for her birthday gift. I really didn't want to buy her that one because I was unsure about what it really was but it was her choice. It has turned out to be a pretty fun game. My husband and daughter like it alot. She has played it more than all of the other 15 games we have (other than Mario Kart of course). It has some very neat aspects and modes of play that aren't found in the other wii games we own so its a nice change from the standard walking your character through worlds. It features all of the favorite characters too which is really fun because each has its own strengths. Even though its a fighting game its not violent.
