4.0 out of 5 stars DS vs. PSP July 18 2005
By A Customer
First things first, I am not specifically a DS or PSP fanboy and im not trying to say that either one of them is amazing and perfect, because neither of them are. I've read many reviews for both systems and many times someone is just saying one system is better because they love Nintendo or Sony and won't even think about the possibility that the other system might have some good points.
I have played the DS and the PSP and though I will say that I personally prefer the DS, it depends on what you personally like, playing games or having a mini computer with not as good games. The DS has only mediocre graphics, I mean if PSP could make such good graphics im sure that the DS could have pulled it off as well, or have even only a bit better than the current DS graphics.
In terms of sound, the DS is superior to the PSP, you pretty much have to use the headphones if you want to get decent sound out of the PSP. In terms of price, the DS costs much less and you dont have to buy as many add-ons, the PSP originally comes with a memory stick that allows you to play 5 MP3 files. Well thank you very much, Sony, I'm sure that that will be able to hold me over for forever. The PSP costs a lot of money but you get your money's worth out of it. One very bad thing that afflicted the PS2 as well is the fact that you have to probably send your PSP back about 1 or 2 times before you get one that works well. If you don't believe me, just ask your friends who own PSPs if they have a problem with the pixels. The PSP has amazing graphics though, and looks much better than the DS. The ability to play movies is downgraded slightly by the poor choices for movies but that will become better as more and more movies are released. The DS's touch screens respond very well but so far there have not been many games that take full advantage of the DS's potential. The DS, at the same time, is quite a bit more unweildly and can pretty much only play games, it doesn't have the versatility that the PSP has. I tink its more useful to be able to play movies and connect to the internet than to have a microphone that you dont use very often.
Overall, if you like listening to music, watching movies and playing medium-quality games, the PSP is for you, and if you like being able to play good-quality games but not be able to do much else, the DS is for you. Like I said, it's a matter of personal preference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest collection of features I've ever seen Jan 22 2005
By Aaron
This device has blown my mind. Some of the best features include some simple ones, like reverse compatibility.
The games come in sleek mini-dvd cases that can store your GBA games as well as the tiny compact flash game cards.

The possibilities for future games are endless, and the two screens are so fun to watch. In the metroid cinematics, they try showing samus on one screen and her point of view shot on the other, which worked out great. The gameboy advance games you can play on it already offer a really great library for people like me who miss the old days of glorious sidescrollers and adventure-puzzle games like zelda and metroid.
It's like buying portable N64 that can comunicate with your neighbor's that also plays supernintendo games.

I am just hoping there will be a DS cartridge that loads software that can run the GBA games in multiplayer mode. I can't help but wonder why the hardware would be unable to at least play those games with other DS users, so I'm guessing there will be an answer to that.

When this system first came out, i would have told you not to buy it... yet... simply because there weren't that many games that would appeal to anyone except the diehard fans. Now, things are very different. With 2 colour, backlit screens, one of them being touch sensitive, powerful enough to produce great 3d graphics, and an array of titles that will satisfy anyone, and now online compatibility, I have 2 words if you are considering buying a DS.

BUY IT.

The Nintendo DS explodes a variety of simple ideas and does it perfectly. There are two screens, one of them being a touchscreen and allows an endless array of new ideas. With such games like Mario Kart, Castlevania, Sonic Ruch, Tony Hawk, and others, now is a great time to buy a DS. It may not have all the gimicky features that the PSP does, but in the end, the DS is a winner and has a very bright future ahead of it. If you're wanting some good reviews on the system and it's games, look no further to www.ign.com which can give you a more in depth look at what the system can do. If you buy the system and an online compatible game... maybe i'll see you online! ;)
