Product Description

The game's setting is centered around a mansion in Rhode Island, the home of the protagonist Alexandra Roivas' grandfather and the mysterious book known as The Tome of Eternal Darkness that Alexandra finds there. It is presented in a third-person perspective in which the player must navigate a number of locations as 12 characters spanning different time periods. The game utilizes unique "sanity effects" to enhance the gameplay. Though not a commercial success, Eternal Darkness was widely praised, even winning the Outstanding Achievement in Character or Story Development award at the 6th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, presented by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

This is a great game. Get it. Long play time and you don't want to stop until it's done. There are three options to choose from in the beginning determining which evil you fight against so when you finish one you still get to play the whole thing again twice more against different bosses. I really enjoyed it.

A classic game. The gameplay controls might not appeal to someone who's played a lot of newer games but the story is interesting and I like that certain aspects change based on the choices you make. There's a big rock-paper-scissors formula going on throughout the game that's very important to master when using the magic.

Eternal Darkness, in a nutshell, is a Resident Evil-esque game with H.P.Lovecraft writings as the main story inspiration.

The main story follows a woman named Alexandra Roivas who has received a call about the recent murder of her Grandfather Edward.
She goes to her family estate and it quickly becomes apparent that if Alex wants answers on her Grandfathers murder that she is going to need to search the Estate for clues as to who and why would they kill him in cold blood.
She eventually finds a book called The Tome of Eternal Darkness, and from there reads entries from other people who have had the book, and their experiences with the dark forces and mysteries behind it.

The main selling point of the game play is that along with the usual magic and health bar, you also have a sanity meter, which gauges your current characters grip on reality. (The characters are, after all, just normal people, and seeing things which goes against the natural order of the world can mess with you)
As the Sanity meter goes down, not only will the character be toyed with, but the game will go as far as breaking the fourth wall to mess with the player as well, with things ranging from switching the floor and ceiling of the room the character is in to falsely showing a blue screen telling you your memory card is corrupt and to reset the game (which many a player has fallen for)

A must have for fans of the Survival Horror games, but if you're not big on Survival Horror games I'm certain this wont end up selling you on the genre.
An interesting experience nonetheless though, while the lack of challenge in combat leaves something to be desired at times the story is well written and brought together by a cast of varied and colourful characters who show just how much curiosity killed the cat, and the sanity meter adds quite a bit of flare and intrigue which will make you want to keep playing just to see how the game will toy with you next.
