Arcade excitement, arcade feel
Excite Truck doesn't hide the fact that it's an arcade racer. You won't be modifying your rig with aftermarket parts or racing to win the heart of some flag-waving girl. You will, however, go fast- very fast. It would be easy to stay on the dirt path that defines the race track, but if you plan on truly winning in Excite Truck, you have to go off road and in the air. Your true success in each race is based on a star system. The more stars you get by performing stunts, drifts and more, the better your rank.

Netting lots of stars is not for the feint of heart. You'll need to cruise through fields of trees, launch yourself high in the air, hang on around curves for dear life and smash the daylights out of other trucks. All this and you still want to finish the race in first place.

Turbo originality
As with the game's spiritual predecessor, the NES classic Excitebike, you can turbo to your heart's content, but if you push the envelope too far, your rig will overheat, causing you to stall until it cools down. If you smash into a tree, go to far into the water or come face-to-face with a rock known as a mountain, you'll need to mash the 2 Button to right your truck and get back on the road.

The Wii-unique aspect of Excite Truck is the way you hold the Remote. Instead of its traditional vertical configuration, you hold it in a horizontal fashion, like the center bar of a steering wheel. You move the remote in the same fashion that you would a car steering wheel, tilting your right hand up if you want to turn left and your left hand up if you want to go right. When your truck goes airborne, its front end will lean toward the ground if you tilt the Remote away from you, and if you tilt the Remote toward to, your truck's front end will point up, allowing you to catch a little more air. If you catch enough air, you can try to pull off a 720 and, if you're daring enough, a 1080. The more midair spins you can perform, the more stars you earn. Plus, remember tilting your arms while playing Excitebike to try to make your character land a huge jump? Now that move will actually affect the game in Excite Truck.

"Raze" the track
The game features a Dynamic Terrain power-up. When you drive over this symbol, the road ahead changes, sometimes it plows upward to give you an extra hill to jump off. Other times, the terrain can sink, sometimes exposing water that can cool off an overheating engine. If you time the Dynamic Terrain activation just right, you can earn stars by sending racers out in front of you for an unexpected flight. Excite Truck's tracks also contain POW power-ups. This gives you clutch invincibility as you dare to go off the road and into the woods for a star-flooded tree run.

Excite Truck lets you customize the in-game music you race to. Download an MP3 to an SD card and explore Excite Truck's sound options to hear the tunes you want. The speed of the game is one thing, going fast to tunes that get you pumped up makes the game a pulse-pounding experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game- Warning However, Mar 2 2007

This Game introduced me to the Wii and I my son and I got right into it. However, a warning to all who play this game. It displays slightly smaller than the widescreen picture I have and has several items that display all the time. On the bottom right is a TEMP gauge for your boost and on top right is the lap counter. Well I have a nice burn in on my plasma where these items are. So much for my $2700 plasma!! You can't turn them off and they don't move, so BEWARE of this. Turn your brightness down if you don't want the same. The other games don't seem to have this, I just wish I had seen this coming or if the game designer would allow this to be turned off.

Otherwise great game. Happy racing!

We are currently playing this on our LCD tv and we have not had any problems like the plasma player (review of plasma tv owner is on this page). Nothing is burned into the tv and trust me, we play this game alot. It could just be how that person has their brightness turned up to high in general. We meaning my spouse and I, have become Excite truck addicts.

The controls/steering of the vehicle is so smooth. The Wiimote ( with the new Wii jacket) is comfortably used to raise/land/steer left or right your truck through some exciting terrains. No glitches in the controls at all, no problem steering various hefty or light trucks in the game.
At first I was really intimidated by the tricks, thinking I won't be able to complete the tracks and fill up the achievement awards within the game. However I followed the quick tutorials and kept at it. Soon doing tricks came second nature to us while driving.

Race locations are Fiji, Scotland, China, Canada, Mexico. Visuals are stunning at each location along with the graphics. If you have mp3s, then load on your favourite driving tunes onto the SD card and go do some damage. *Within the game - head to options and clear out the SD card of music or set it to random play and throughout the game it will toggle through your music list.

This game is not for those who love tweaking their vehicles to race. I am not one of those that can race then figure out how to upgrade my engine, brakes, all those things to make my ride gun it like the others. I just want to race and this game fits the bill.
Each win unlocks different levels of the locations I listed above. While driving maniacally along you can change the environments on the fly. Changing the terrain can wreak havoc among the very intelligent AI drivers by tossing them out of your way at the last second or finding new shortcuts for yourself.
Sadly the two player mode is just you and the other person (split screen), no AI trucks to add to the possible carnage you can do.
This game rewards you for crashing into the other drivers, drifting (like many other games), spinning your vehicle in the air (much like snowboarding), doing tree runs and jumps as well.

In order to enjoy this ride you need to be able to let go of the "track racing" mentality and literally go off road.
I purchased this game used from an Amazon reseller here and it won't leave my Wii library.

Every weekend the answering machine goes on and the cats in the house get ignored... :)))) while
Excite truck is on.

My 6 yr old son fell in love with this game instantly and the adults are just as addicted. Of all the Wii games, this has had, by far, the most hours of play.
