To make gaming as accessible to people of all ages and all abilities, Nintendo wanted to create a controller that was as inviting as it was sophisticated- the result is the Wii Remote. Nintendo fused the global familiarity of a remote control with the sophistication of motion-sensing technology to come up with an input device that differentiates the Wii from any other console that has come before it.
Revolutionary control
Sporting the dimensions of a small traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote is a multifunctional device that is limited only by the game designer's imagination. The magic of the Wii Remote's design lies within; acellerometers inside the controller body measure movement in all directions and at all speeds. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket as you swing your arm for a long forehand or a quick and hard backhand. In a 4x4 driving game it serves as a steering wheel, allowing you to swerve to avoid obstacles or pickup power-ups. In first-person shooters, the Wii Remote acts as a firearm that you can point directly at an on-screen enemy. The list of potential uses is enormous, and the light weight of the Wii Remote allows gamers to play for hours without feeling fatigued.

As comfortable as it is functional
The Wii Remote is equally comfortable in right and left hands and houses just the right number of buttons for gaming- not so many that new players will get confused, but enough so that Wii games don't feel constrained. On the face of the remote are the D (or "plus") pad, a large "A" button which is used for major on-screen actions, and two small options buttons. Between the game buttons are a plus and minus buttons (which often act as "forwards" and "back"), as well as a "Home" button to engage the Wii home screen to change settings or check remote battery levels. On the back side of the controller is a trigger-like "B" button, perfect for timing releases of a bowling roll in Wii Sports.
Thankfully, battery life is excellent with the two included AA batteries, just as with the previous generation of Nintendo wireless controllers.
Immersive intelligence
Along the bottom of the Wii Remote, four blue LED lights indicate which player position the remote is currently set to. The controller automatically connects to the Wii console via Bluetooth wireless technology. Below the LEDs, an expansion port lets you connect a number of devices including the Nunchuck and Classic controllers for Virtual Console gaming (Virtual Console games and controller accessories sold separately). Other features of the Wii Remote include adjustable rumble force-feedback and a reinforced wrist strap to ensure safe use. A speaker inside the remote gives the player feedback about the strength of swings or the accuracy of their moves- such as realistic tennis noises as the "racket" connects with the ball in Wii Sports. Overall, the physical design of the remote is extremely sturdy and of very high quality, ensuring countless hours of Wii gaming fun!

Gaming was soon reaching the end of the line for me, before this magnificient remote was introduced. Never before have I considered the possibilities of motion control in video games. One step closer to true virtual reality, the mighty "WiiMote" can be held in your hand like a TV remote, and deftly becomes your sword, your paintbrush, your wand, your tennis racket, baseball bat, or golf club! Turn it sideways and it quickly becomes a configuration you know and love, it becomes your typical game pad, or with motion control technology, even a steering wheel that responds to you turning it like an actual wheel! The Wii Remote is easily the breakthrough of the video game world! My own parents, having not touched videogames in 10 to 12 years, are as we speak enjoying playing tennis, or bowling, or even boxing, all from the comfort of our living room. I highly recommend trying the amazing intuitiveness of the wii remote, and if you enjoy it, pick up a wii at your local retailers! You won't soon regret it!

Firstly Wii can be great but that's not why we are here.Should you buy this remote? three options are now available. 1) do you have WiiPlay? No then get it instead, it comes with a game that is decently fun and has some good bits, and comes with a wii remote for only 10$ more.Nintendo Wii Play with Wii Remote 2) have you seen the black wii remote, in Fall 2009 they began selling the black wii remote which comes with an integrated Wii motion plus Wii MotionPlus(20$ if bought separately) for only a bit more then the regular remote. The Wii Motion Plus is supposed to be integrated in many of the new games coming out in 2010 and beyond so you'll probably need to buy them eventually for all your remotes and the black wii mote Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus Bundle - Black saves you the trouble of buying one wii motion plus, and having external devices plugged into the end of your wii remote. 3) buy this remote cause it seems to be being phased out for the newer remote mentioned above, therefore the price might be a bit lower to sell them off. And most of the games don't use the wii motion plus yet anyways (only one or two right now as of this writing). Also I heard that when using the remote on its side (like for retro Nintendo games) it is easier to use this type of remote because it is shorter. So if you play a lot of the side ways controller game maybe you should stick to the shorter white remote. just want to make sure everyone is informed before you buy this remote and are disappointed later.

The Wii remote is definitely different. You get great interaction with your video games with the remote.Simulating motions such as you would in tennis, golf, baseball, bowling. Even more fun if you are wielding a sword. I will say this..I have not had the controller leave my hand during gameplay. But I have been so immersed in the game that I will creep forward towards the t.v and the sensor for the remote. So every now and then I have to move back. I don't have to over extend my motions when swinging etc. Therefore I have not experienced sore shoulders or anything else first reported when the Wii came out. What I have experienced is a new way to interact with videogames. Even my husband who is not too much into videogames will play more games now. He doesn't have to learn button pressing combos. I own and have owned other consoles, the ps2 is still in the house, so I am new to Nintendo and all its products and games. Now in our house I wait to game with my husband as it is more fun with another. :P
