Review

"This second novel featuring British CID Inspector David Bliss is simply terrific." (Globe and Mail )

"…a great story, and Bliss out of his depth in Canada is not to be missed." (Star Phoenix (Saskatoon, SK) )

Book Description

Melanie Gordonstone, a cherubic six-year-old, was Daddy's favourite in every way. So Margaret, her jealous 12-year-old sister, drowned her in a backyard pool. Inexperience led young Detective Bliss to attribute the girl's death to accident, but Melanie's mother drives herself mad believing her husband to be the killer. Margaret taunts her deranged mother for 10 years before putting her out of her misery, hanging her from a chandelier in a faked suicide. Now, frightened for his own safety, Margaret's father sends her to live in a remote Canadian community where he believes she can do no further damage - big mistake!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reading!, Jan 16 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: No Cherubs for Melanie: An Inspector Bliss Mystery (Paperback)
Well written, good character development, great story full of suspense. Set in Northern Ontario and London, England, this story carries with it a variety of characters and environments. The transition from the English culture to the "wild" Canadian culture makes a great contrast in the storyline. This is the first James Hawkins book that I have read; and now I will be looking at acquiring all of his Inspector Bliss Series. If you are a fan of Lou Allin's Belle Palmer mysteries, you will enjoy Hawkins as well.
