Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Turkey's techno sleaze-queen Khan breaks out the broken English for his third long-player on Matador Records. No Comprendo features a wealth of well-to-do artistic collaborators all with similarly unhealthy obsessions to "El Turco Loco" himself. Françoise Cactus bemoans her lack of adequately ample bosoms on "Les Gros Nichons" although unless you speak French you'd be none the wiser. Ex-Cramp Kid Congo Powers comes on like a cannibalistic lothario on "Why Hurt Flesh?" and graces the even less salutary "Vaseline". Beyond the pale (moon), "The Wolf", finds Khan howling like a mad dog over a stalking soundtrack as he tears his prey limb from limb in a no-holds-barred bout of predatory sex. Jon Spencer quakes, shakes, hollers and yelps like the ghost of Screamin' Jay on "Monster" and the falsetto on "Fishies Funk". Veteran blues-picker Andre Williams dribbles drunken rubbish on "Mercy Mama" and valium torch singer Julee Cruise sings farewell to her lover on "Say Goodbye" as she dispatches him six feet deep. Digital Hardcore destructress Hanin Elias sets a lyrical honey trap in between The Bee's dizzy distortion pyrotechnics. Diabolic soprano, Diamanda Galas reveals a most polite banshee wail on the eerie River Styx drift of "Aman". Musically this is techno dragged kicking and screaming back to the Mississippi Delta by way of the sleaze-strewn streets of the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Psycho-sexual dance music with a gutter funk stank and a no-wave allure. --Chris Campion

4.0 out of 5 stars Khan is dope, Sep 8 2003

This review is from: No Comprendo (Audio CD)
I'm loving this disc more and more with each listen. At first it seems a little too varried, with out any consistent themes, but upon further listen, one discovers a deeply surreal experience. It's like listening to a David Lynch production, a dark underworld of sex, crime, drugs and fantasy. I would put this up there with Jimi Tenor. It's been a couple of years since this was released...I hope Khan is working on a follow up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Khan has taste!, Jan 5 2002

Khan (aka Can Oral) is the musical movement behind this little treat. Not only is his electronic sound very unconvential overall (its very quirky, and isn't afraid to use flat notes that sound out place with the melody... but thats what makes it sound so damn cool!)
This aside... he picked some damn good collaborators! I met Khan & his right hand man, Kid Congo Powers backstage at a Diamanda Galas show... & I got talking with Kid and he clued me on the forthcoming project that involved him and Diamanda with his partner, Khan (whom was very friendly but quiet.) Then Diamanda came over and joined the discussion... and whilst the 3 were all chatting amongst themselves... I quickly realized there was a project that was gonna totally kick ...!
A few months later, it came out... and not only do Kid Congo & Diamanda do a remarkable job (as expected) but the selection of other collaborators were varied & extremely impressive! Lets we had: Jon Spencer, Julee Cruise, Hanin Elias (Atari Teenage Riot), Francoise Cactus (Stereo Total), & Andre Williams. I have to say this is a diverse collection of sleaze, French cutesyness, etheral love song, brooding schrei, attitude, & a dirty old black man who wants a piece of ...! I've listened to many collaborative projects... and the only thing that is as cool as this, are Die Haut's team of players (which Kid Congo was a part of before) & Recoil's gang (which Diamanda Galas was a part of) but... I feel Diamanda was utilized better in this project, than Alan Wilder's need to make Diamanda sound pretty & accessible. Khan definitely left Diamanda intact, in the way you can still feel what she is all about.
This album was definitely in the top 5 of best albums in 2000 (along with The Strokes, Anita Lane, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds & Foetus.) I highly recommend this to persons who like collaborative efforts.

1.0 out of 5 stars no comprendo why I bought this piece of, July 1 2008

This review is from: No Comprendo (Audio CD)
I first heard of Khan's music in a skateboard video. The song "Say Hello" seemed to fit in good within the movie, and I wanted to know more.

This happened to be one of those times where your curiosity could HARM YOU IN A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE WAY.

I no comprendo how I did dare to buy this atrocious, ear-grinding, no-good-occasion-to-ever-listen-to-that scheisse. All the songs differ so much from one another there is no continuity within the album. And these songs, taken independantly, are (to me at least) an example of lack of talent and inspiration. Production blows, the lyrics are poor, the songs (except "Say Hello") are worse and worse as the album goes.

Please make yourself a gift and DON'T consider buying this album. I seriously played it twice before telling myself absolutely NOTHING could be done.
