Wonderful bedtime story March 19 2012
By J. Prather - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Take one look at the messy line illustrations in this book and you will recognize the Feiffer signature style. It works especially well in this bedtime story, lending charm to the characters and giving everything a sleepy, smudged look just perfect for bedtime. The text is simple and clever, making everything around the child a friendly presence, as the stars say "We will twinkle and sprinkle sweet dreams down to you", and the car driving by says "Beep, beep, sleep, sleep". I loved how the goldfish were quick to reassure "We won't swim away", and of course the dog says nothing because "He was too sleepy".

This is a book that will very easily fit into a bedtime routine to be read night after night. The illustrations are so expressive, and the repeating rhythm of the story makes it a perfect read aloud. The best illustration in the book is when the baby says "NO!" Parents and kids alike will look at that mad face and laugh, and admire how the illustrator perfectly captures the baby on the last page, when yes, he finally goes to sleep. This made me think of a contemporary Goodnight Moon, and is an enthusiastic recommend.
Very Funny for Kids and Parents July 9 2014

No go sleep is an adorable book about a baby. Like many babies and toddlers, going to sleep is something they are not fond of. They would much rather stay up and have fun. This baby is no different. As he is in bed, he tells his parents no go sleep. After reassuring the baby, the sun and moon help. If that is not enough the cars and fogs have a little something to say. Baby is reassured by everything and then back to his room by his dolls. Baby is still not confined even after his mother is asking again. Finally one last no is called out and then baby unwillingly closes his eyes and fall asleep.

I like this book for many reasons. First of all as a parent dealing with a difficult sleeper, this book does have some humor to it. Second of all, as a child having butterflies and cars saying good night can bring on smiles and laughs. The last part I like is that if you have a difficult sleeper, this book will help bring on conversations. It is great door opener to a discussion lead by the parent.

I am not fond of baby saying no to parent but I see why for some this is necessary.

Overall it is a well written adorable book that is fun for many age groups. I would recommend it.
Nice book March 3 2014

My 22-month daughter LOVES the book! I'm not charmed that the book teaches my child the phrase 'no go sleep' (which luckily hasn't caught on) or by the final 'NO' the baby says (immediately before going to sleep anyway), but I love every page in between. The pages offer comforting messages from nearby objects (dolly, shoes, birds, trees, owls, etc) that are soothing and fun. I substitute 'nigh-nigh' for 'No' with each reading, and the book overall works for me that way.
