This review is from: No Golden Journey: Life of James Elroy Flecker (Hardcover)
This was an easily readable, thorougly fascinating account of the Victorian upper-class upbringing of one of Britan's lesser known Vicorian/Edwardian poets, Roy Flecker.
A highly recommended insight into the devastating impact of misguided parenting on the future working and social life of a young literary prodigy. A victim of that common form of mental abuse, a Victorian childhood, the brilliant Flecker suffered the pain and isolation of parents with whom he could only truly communicate by long distance correspondence. Impecunious and lonely, he eventually finds love abroad; then quickly succumbs after a 4-year marriage - and at the early age of 30 - to TB. A true tragedy played out with a cast of characters who, 'though striving to be good people, had no idea about human relationships.
