Excellent,

This review is from: No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice (Paperback)
Yes, another great book by Sklansky co-written be Ed Miller, although I have not read any material by Ed Miller they did a great job. The book consists of two parts. The Fundamentals and Concepts and Weapons. Fundamentals consisting about 2/3 of the book and 1/3 Concepts and Weapons, where they put all together. In my own opinion, learning the fundamentals being the most important thing in anything that you do is a great approach that the authors did, whether you are a beginner or advanced player everybody will benefit from the book, as they take a bottom up approach to poker theory and practice. This is the second book of Sklansky that I have purchased and like first book (Theory of Poker) he gives you a lot to think about never really telling you how to play a certain way, but giving you different options on how to play. This is what I really enjoy about reading his material. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because I think there were just too many mathematical equations in the book even though they did state that you should not weary too much about the math they present in the book. After reading the book several times and being happy with my own ability to figure pot odds and outs, the math just got tired to look at. For myself, I have had over two weeks to digest the material in there book. After the first week I felt i wasnt playing my A-game which is normal for me. I dont know what it is but whenever I read a new book, there is always a grace period for me it get the feel of what the authors are saying and time to put the concepts into practice, but I am back to my winning ways and have a better feel for the game when I play. I have been playing poker for about 1 year and have read other poker books in the past, this book does rank up there with the best written on the subject of No-Limit Holdem and I believe that it belongs on any serious players book shelf, although the book does have some errors, you do get the gist of the scenarios given to sharpen your game. Good Luck with your game

Good academics, but may put you to sleep,

This review is from: No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice (Paperback)
Sklansky's knowledge of the subject makes no doubt. But the way this book is written lacks any intent to keep the reader's interest, in my point of view anyway. If you can read academic books without falling asleep this is a great book.

Top Notch No Limit Hold'em Book,

This review is from: No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice (Paperback)
This book is a great read for no limit hold'em players. It covers a lot basic fundamentals and advance theories for the game. Unlike limit hold'em, there is more than one way to play this game. The key to no limit hold'em in my opinion is to find a style that you are comfortable with. Whether you have a huge bankroll and like to be the aggressor or you have a smaller bankroll and want to "grind" out the games this book will provide you with the fundamentals you need to achieve success. It doesn't provide with with if you have A do B strategies, it just gives you underlined theories and ideas behind the game leaving you to decide how you want to approach the game.If you learn the concepts and theories in this book and the Theory of Poker and combine it with playing a lot of hands then you will find success in the smaller limit games.
