No Name Face is an auspicious debut from Lifehouse, a band seemingly made to rule the airwaves. The insinuating melodies that mark their radio-friendly sound are not unlike those of Matchbox Twenty in their softer moments. From the first single "Hanging by a Moment" to the emotive and up lifting "Quasimodo" and the wonderful "Trying" (think Crowded House at their lilting best), Lifehouse are self-possessed and focused. Young singer-songwriter Jason Wade (the son of two ministers) imbues Lifehouse's vibe with a spiritual quality that's never heavy-handed, delivering the goods with the authority of an experienced troubadour. No Name Face may be a first offering from a young band, but it looks to signal the beginning of an estimable career. --Katherine Turman

Product Description

Includes two bonus tracks, both not on the U.S. version: 'What's Wrong With That' and 'Fool'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh is the word Jan 12 2004
Format:Audio CD
This kind of music really depends on your tolerance of certain Rock bands in these days. If you're kind of easy going, then this is O.K and you may really like it. But like many "top bands" now, I found I had to fool myself to actually claim to like the CD in general. The honest to real truth, is that there are some good bands, but only some...actually a few. I guarantee you that you WILL get sick of some of these songs after a while, if not much sooner than others. I don't really recommend this unless you like this kind of music they play on the radio and you get excited when they play that. This is for you, otherwise if you're looking for something more meaningful, a little obscure, or heartbreakingly beautiful...this isn't the place. It's just pure, almost innocent pop rock with what the band believes to be, some lyrics laden with angst but it falls short because it isn't really reflected in Jason Wade's voice nor is it reflected in their songs overall.

Too often do bands just sing, but they sing only for the audience. They write ONLY for the audience (to sell of course), whether they actually feel what they write is a mystery. Lifehouse, in most circumstances falls into that syndrome.

5.0 out of 5 stars They deserve a Grammy Sep 21 2002
By SiN
Format:Audio CD
This stunning debut album invites listeners on the road to self-discovery through evocative lyrics and profound messages, immaculate instrumentals and the soothing sounds of lead singer Jason Wade. A revealing album that projects an honest illustration of what it means to be unsure of the surrounding world, to hope for requited love and to find your true identity. Lifehouse allows us to explore their innermost feelings and see the vulnerability that lies within each and every one of us. The band exudes such a proficient skill; it's hard to believe they've merely begun. Each song contains its unique blend of harmonic melodies, yet they are all comprised of a vaguely unvarying element that ties into Lifehouse's trademark sound. Although No Name Face fluctuates with steady guitar strums, thunderous drums and blends of bass and baritone, Lifehouse never compromise the constancy of their authenticity. The album intensifies with songs like "Quasimodo" and the explosive hit "Hanging by a Moment" then ultimately glides into emotionally captivating numbers as "Everything" and "Somewhere in Between". The heart of the album lies in a beautiful ballad entitled "Breathing", but one listen to No Name Face, and you'll be left breathless.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this band Mar 17 2001
By Holly
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD on an impulse like a lot of other people. My friend Holly told me that Hanging By a Moment was cool so I downloaded it off Napster.. fell in love and thought hey I'll buy this CD and see if it's cool. It's more then cool. The lyrics are powerful and emotional. I adore music like this, but i have a hard time finding great stuff. Forever I have been hooked on my Hanson CD's and couldn't find anything else that totally blew me away like they did like four years ago. Until I heard Lifehouse. It's pretty different from Hanson, but it did the job. I'm hooked on this CD and it plays more often then Middle of Nowhere. All the songs are wonderful. I can't pick a favorite. I guess it depends on your mood though. Everything is really powerful and one of my friends takes it into a Christian point of veiw and it's like whoa.. I'm going to a Matchbox 20 concert just so I can see Lifehouse cuz they are one of my fave bands now. BUY this CD!! It's the best!!
