Maggie Black does a fantastic job in describing the United Nations in all of its complexities and with great nuance. She does this with succinct, engaging writing filled with important information. It's a great tutorial on the UN that discusses both its achievements and failures. Black discusses the types of reforms needed at the UN as well. A friend of mine who has worked for the UN for 30 years says it's the best book on the UN and he's read many large tomes on this topic.
