Product Description

Review

Every November, tens of thousands of people sign up for National Novel Writing Month and attempt to write a 50,000-word novel. Baty, the brains behind this competition, has produced an uproariously funny motivational manifesto so readers can get a leg-up in his race or in the larger publishing game. The key is to lower your expectations "from 'best-seller' to 'would not make someone vomit, ' " says Baty, who maintains that stress and a deadline are important parts of writing. Aimed at the nonserious, with an emphasis on summoning creativity and having a life-changing experience, this original approach will appeal to anyone up for a challenge. -Library Journal

After years of fitful starts to a dozen different novels I believed I did not have it in me to write fiction. This book changed my life -- it gave me all the techniques to overcome The Inner Critic and produce a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It is funny, wise and extremely effective. God bless Chris Baty.

I simply could not put this book down! It has inspired me to partake in this years NaNoWriMo. Chris Baty has put together a winner here. It is funny, inspiring, and educational. I laughed to the point of tears on several occasions and I highly recommend this book to all aspiring novelists.

Well... This is good, but this is not what I expected!

This book tells you how to prepare and how to deal with your schedule when you want to write a novel! There are plenty of good advices to feel more confident about the idea of being a first time author, but basically, the main message is 'write anything, even if it doesn't make sense, as long as you reach 50 000 words"! Why? Because in your mess, maybe you'll find a good idea that you'll want to work on! And the author never actually talk about structure or narrative stuff very deeply, so I guess it's the biggest flaw of this book!

However, this book will help you to find your motivation and to make the changes you need in your life (agenda) to get ready to write a book, so it's a good kick-starter!
