Terrible terrible terrible movie. The premise of the movie is great! I love romantic comedies and almost like all of them but this is the WORST movie I've seen in a really long Time! Buy "friends with benefits" instead.

Ok, so I rolled my eyes and watched this on Netflix because it was there and I like Natalie Portman (and, I will confess, I have a bit of a soft spot for Ashton Kutcher and his luggish appeal). I thought to myself, "This will be mediocre at best, and I may not even finish it, but I'll put it on while I work on this spreadsheet". The first ten minutes were much better than I had anticipated, and by 30 minutes in I had stopped working on my spreadsheet and was completely enthralled. Yes, enthralled. And now I am here preparing to buy a copy.

The main characters are likable and relatively believable: Kutcher makes a convincing and sympathetic beta-male, and Portman does self-sufficient-damaged-goods quite well, without taking it into a maudlin or preachy "I don't need a man" place. The movie does a nice job of inverting the traditional romantic comedy gender stereotypes, with the girl being the distant one afraid to commit and the guy being the one trying to change her mind. The peripheral characters--while quirky--are not the over-the-top caricatures that often crop-up in romantic comedies, and it's sexy without being raunchy, and sweet without being sappy.

I'm not saying this is the best movie you will ever see, but you know the premise, you know the genre, and you know the actors. And taking all those things into consideration, I think it is absolutely the best movie it could be.

This movie was almost identical to Friends with Benefits. Just the players were changed, but it had the same premise.
