5.0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming, Informative, Great Training Tips, Mar 23 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nobody's Best Friend: Loving & Learning with Adoptive Dogs (Paperback)
This book takes you into the ups and downs of an animal shelter workers life. You ride the emotional roller coaster of accomplishments and defeats. The true stories of the animals involved will bring both tears of joy and sadness to your eyes. When you read the last story......all you can say is GIVE ME MORE!!!!! You just want to keep going.

The training tips at the end of the book are not only comprehensive, but in the animals best interest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet stories that will touch the hearts of dog lovers., April 9 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nobody's Best Friend: Loving & Learning with Adoptive Dogs (Paperback)
These short, quick stories get right to the heart of the shelter worker's life. The plight of the dogs is often ugly and sad, but Lorraine tells the stories in a way that shows how warmth and tenderness always win the day. Each dog she touches, and who touches her, is proof of the inexplicable but wonderful connection we make with animals. In Nobody's Best Friend, there aren't always happy endings, and there are always sad beginnings, but the tales are uplifting nonetheless. You will come away unable to help but admire Lorraine's commitment to make the world a better place (one dog at a time), and if you're not moved to contribute to the cause, check your pulse. As an appendix to the book, Lorraine gives some great advice on choosing and living with your dog whether from a shelter or breeder. The language is unpolished and authentic, and the stories are told in a stream of memory that feels completely natural. Reading this book is like listening to a good friend telling you about her dogs. Curl up somewhere comfortable with your dog, this book, and a mug of your favourite, and bring a box of kleenex.
