Entertaining Vampire Saga, Dec 2 2003
This review is from: Nocturne (Paperback)
This is the fifth and latest of Elaine Bergstrom's vampire books about the Austra family. While I usually find vampire stories too juvenile, this series is sophisticated and witty, with an interesting twist on the basic vampire concept -- they are not undead humans, they are a different species altogether. Bergstrom creates a believeable biology for her vampires, as well as plausible reasons why conventional physical laws don't necessarily apply to them. And she has endowed her creatures with credible characteristics that serve as the basis for old folk tales, such as a vampire's fear of sunshine. Nocturne and the earlier books of the series (Shattered Glass, Blood Rites, Blood Alone and Daughter of the Night) are good page-turners to take on an airplane or to read on the subway. They're not too demanding, yet serve up enough substance to satisfy an intelligent reader.

At last the long awaited sequel to BLOOD RITES, Nov 2 2003
This review is from: Nocturne (Paperback)
I have read all of the books in the series, Blood Rites as well as all of Elaine's books. I have been waiting breathlessly for this sequel, and I was not disappointed. Elaine's words grab you in the first chapter and carry you through to the end of the last chapter. I could barely put the book down, and read it on my breaks and lunch hour at work. That is always my least favorite part, finishing the book. Because I know I have to wait impatiently for Elaine to release another. This is a book worth reading, enjoy.

Grabbed Me from the First Page, Oct 29 2003
This review is from: Nocturne (Paperback)
I stayed up all night to finish "Nocturne." The first sentence of Chapter One hooked me and the rest of the book delivered. The story is romantic, suspenseful, and quickly immerses the reader into a seductive and fascinating world. Besides giving us vampires that we like and want to root for, Bergstrom has a wonderful way of blending old world feel into modern day times. Can't wait for the sequel.
