I first heard about this film when I was looking into Michael Caine's lesser-known films. The "also starring Christopher Reeve, Carol Burnett, John Ritter, and Denholm Elliot" really caught my attention and I ordered it on a whim. I've worked in theater and I can appreciate a good catastrophe, so I was looking forward to this greatly. A sarcastic review I read dampened my spirits a bit because it said that the stage version of Noises Off was the funniest play he'd ever seen, and that the film was the least funny movie he'd ever seen. I worried that it would turn out to be an over-the-top, trying-too-hard farce. Well, this goes to show you shouldn't trust reviews (mine are exceptions ;). The film turned out to be a hilarious three-act show that I've re-watched many times. It has its flaws, particularly the final disaster of the third act which can't live up to the brilliant second act, but the show is a great one put on by great actors.

Noises off is a great screenplay and they did a very good job of bringing the play to film. Film has its limitations with this sort of production but it is still very funny and of course the cast is fab. Overall noises off in theatres is better and prefer it in the theatre but love the movie in a pinch.

Noises Off!
Want a crazy stage production - this is it. The timing is marvelous. It is nonstop screwy action from the opening lines until the curtain drops.
