Bought mine in 1970 and its still going strong! Nov. 8 2014
By DocM - Published on Amazon.com
That's right, 1970 - a few years after the Fish 'n Fillet was introduced (1964). Bought it for my fishing tackle box as a youngster and it's NEVER failed me. EVER!!

We have the 4", 6" and 9". This is about the is the 6", which was my first. Their blades are Finland made razors, deserving of respect. Sharp enough my wife was afraid of them for years. Not toys.

Fillets fish like a champ, and I've even dressed out a deer with it when my belt knife fell out of its sheath and was lost. After use it gets a hand soap & water cleaning, a drop of mineral oil on the blade, put in the leather sheath and into the kitchen drawer it goes. Yup, I use it there too. Sharpest knife in the drawer. Every week or so I just give a few swipes through the Rapala-made "V" style ceramic sharpener (flat red plastic, easily fits in a shirt pocket) and it's ready for the next round.

Over the last 44 years (!) I've refinished (tung oil) the birch handle 3 times because the finish wore off, but that's to be expected for tool that's used so often. A bit of Bear Grease leather dressing works for keeping the sheath ship shape for years.

As noted above, we also have its 9" big brother and the 4". Same story. Can't kill them. With care my great-grandkids will probably still be using them.

You could say I got my money's worth, and then some.

PS: Rapala also makes hunting knives. The 3" Birch Folding Knife is a good one., but they also make BIG ones.

super sharp Dec 8 2009

Awesome knife! Stays sharp and as long as you use the sharpener than comes with it,
it sharpens like new fast. We use to cut up deer and wild game. Holds sharp edge and makes quick work of processing.

Image is misleading Dec 27 2011

The item I have received is okay but the image is misleading. I own the same knife, except the edge is longer. The item I bought from you looked the same on the image as the one I own. In reality, the edge of the knife is much shorter. Description of the item should contain the size of the knife's edge.

Wonderful knife April 11 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This is not a great size 4"to fillet large fish but "WOW" is it handy. This is more a trout/ bird knife size and wonderful at that. The handle size is perfect and worth the extra dollar over the soft grip handle. Just grip the knife between your thumb and index finger with your index finger in the notch near the blade then tuck the but of the handle into the palm of your hand near the base of your thumb. Then just roll it between your thumb and index finger to get the angle. SWEET.
If you want a sharp fine edge knife for all around work, this is a wonderful knife.

Best Fillet Knife July 20 2011

I've used one of these fillet knife's for years. They stay sharp longer then other fillet knives i've used. My brother-in-law used my knife and really liked it so i had one sent to his house. He says it's a great knife.
