This is another of Jefferson Swycaffer's Traveller novels. It takes place in his Traveller universe, specifically in the Concordat (his personal version of the Imperium). If you're familiar with the Traveller RPG, you'll recognize the terminology, like the weaponry and the use of Jump Drives. If you've never played the game, though, this is still a great read.
Swycaffer's style is very clean and straightforward, and lends itself particularly well to his tales which generally revolve around members of the Concordat Navy. I would recommend this book to fans of militaristic Science Fiction.
