Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Christian financial guru Larry Burkett forsakes his usual pattern of dispensing personal finance advice to offer hope to cancer patients in Nothing to Fear: The Key to Cancer Survival. In March of 1995, Burkett received a shocking diagnosis of kidney cancer, and learned that it had spread to his left shoulder blade. He faced a low expectation of survival. Here, he explains the strategies that helped him better his chances: arming himself with information, seeking several opinions, exploring alternative treatments (even going as far as Prague for immune therapy), changing his diet and allowing faith to win out over fear. The book is quite practical and reassuring, though much of the personal information has already appeared in Burkett's memoir Hope When It Hurts.

Book Description

In Nothing to Fear, Larry Burkett tells his personal journey of a seven-year battle with cancer. Filled with intimate stories and wisdom from the Word, this book will be a great help to the thousands of people who fight this disease, or to friends and loved ones of those in the midst of the struggle. Larry's 2003 passing was the result of heart failure rather than cancer. His legacy continues today and his words still bring hope to those in need of encouragement. 'Even if you can avoid dying from cancer, you'll certainly face something else that will eventually kill you, because all of us are going to die. As god as modern medicine is, it is not the ultimate answer. It will let you down. Trusting God is the answer. He will never let you down.' -Excerpt from Nothing to Fear --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's To Inspiration!, Aug 11 2006

Hello. I recently sent this book to a friend who was preparing to go into surgery to remove cancer from his colon. Needless to say he was very apprehensive about the procedure and actually felt like his time on this earth had come to its natural end.

Last night, I got the great news that the surgery went well and my friend is resting comfortably. His brother told me this book helped tremendously and gave my friend the hope and inspiration he needed as he prepared for this dreadful cancer removal procedure.

There's nothing like direct, positive feedback. God bless my friend and here's too many more years of good living!

5.0 out of 5 stars Living with Cancer, May 25 2009

This review is from: NOTHING TO FEAR: The Key to Cancer Survival (Paperback)
I read this book as a follow-up to the author's first book, "Hope When it Hurts", which I also read recently. This book was published in 2003. Larry Burkett died 7/4/2003. Mr. Burkett's feelings come through in the pages of Nothing to Fear. At times light-hearted, at times very serious, at times on a mission, this book radiates the emotions of someone going through this horrible disease. Yet, he also encourages the cancer patient to have faith and trust in God. He also suggests looking at alternative therapies, which he believed helped him to have a better quality of life. I especially liked his facetious explanation of the aliens establishing fast-food restaurants in 1947 so that when they return they will have a fattened food supply. I do recommend this book to any cancer patient as well as their close family members. If I had been in his situation I don't think I would've gone to all the expense of therapy and would be more inclined to modify my diet more than he was willing to do, but that's just me. I say this not as a cancer patient, but as someone who has gone through extreme dietary changes in order to remedy other life-threatening diseases. In addition to this book I highly recommend the book entitled, The China Study, as well as Eat to Live, and Eat for Health by Dr. Joel Fuhrman [...]. I was very blessed by this book and am very glad to have spent the time reading both his books. They will by one of my first recommendations to any cancer patient I cross paths with. Thank you Burkett family for publishing these books. I feel I know more of who Larry was and my respect for him has grown. He was a wonderful man and I am sure he is missed by many.

Great book for someone dealing with cancer. Lots of useful info. The author, Larry Burkett, did eventually die of his illness so this book is a little dated but still relevant. It outlines things he did to prolong his life after the initial diagnosis and treatment. He discusses treatments he tried that didn't work, and alternative treatments still worth checking into, along with diet, finances, etc. Reading the book can have a calming affect and give hope to the person struggling with this diagnosis. I have given a copy of it as a gift several times and I have always received thanks and good reviews.
