Some will disagree. But to me this is THE Nina album to own. Born in Xixax, Smack Jack, Antiworld............great album. This is Nina right? You get it, or you don't. For fans I can't imagine not owning this record. For non-believers.............well, look at well else was been put forth at that time. Please take this with a grain of salt. There is nothing of Nina's I don't think rocks. This album is however one that I favor above all others................'cept maybe OM NAMH SHIVAY!

This re-release of Nunsexmonkrock contains the extra tracks 11 to 14 which prompts me to award it five stars. The original Nunsexmonkrock didn't quite measure up to Nina's earlier work. Gone were the impressive vocal gymnasics and the superb melodies, making a still good album as measured against the punk and rock music of its era, but lacking in the innovation and originality of albums like Unbehagen and Nina Hagen Band.Having said that, my favorites include Smack Jack, Anti-World and Bon In Xixax, all bubbling, new-wavy rock songs with lots of energy. But the real classics are those extra tracks, like the phenomenal TV Glotzer (a wonderful interpretation of The Tubes' White Punks On Dope), the brilliant tour de force that is African Reggae, and her trenchant rendition of Lene Lovich's Lucky Number (Wir Leben Immer Noch). So this album contains some of the best rock music of the late 1970s and early 80s from a musical genius that deserves more recognition in the English-speaking world. Also check out The Definitive Collection and Nina Hagen Band/Unbehagen, the reissue of the first two albums.

An odd effect well beyond "music",

I just bought this again 20 years after I first borrowed the LP to listen to. Let's face it - Nina, her music, her voice, her style...(not to mention the actual TITLE "Nunsex..." ) is enough to send most normal people away in droves. No wonder the German edition of MAD Magazine once had her on the cover, with a gun to her head! This thing is, (at least on this album), is that the abrupt shifts in her vocal "range" and music are so totally overwhelming, jarring (& even irritating) that I remembered almost going into an undistracted trance listening to it. I was able to complete a class painting deadline in one, prolonged session of totally lost time listening to this over and over. So I guess you can say it was an interesting alternative for us drug-free creative types! (I just hope there are no backmasked or subliminal satanic messages in it) ;-)
