Rejoice, Repent, and Re-view These 'Naughty Nun' Releases..., Oct 1 2010

This review is from: Nunsploitation Collection (DVD)
This collection of 'Naughty Nuns' flicks is a treat for both your wallet and perverse imagination. What we have here is one great movie that features nuns but stands up on its own as a pseudo-art-house film, one rather explicit, shocking though still somewhat artsy example of the nunsploitation genre, and a trashy, exploitative slice of cinematic sleaze. Interested? I thought so.
'The Nuns of St. Archangel' is a well-crafted film that incorporates all the elements of trashier nun films, but transcends the trash while delivering the goods to become something different than the other two in this collection - a superior film. OK, so the filth factor isn't as high, but if you appreciate a little art in your carnal convent collection, this one will do nicely. Read my review of this title for additional details.
'Images in a Convent' is probably the Holy Grail of nunsploitation flicks along with Ken Russell's 'The Devils' (which STILL hasn't received a proper release in almost 40 years). This is as close to true art-house exploitation as Joe D'Amato ever got, and shows what he could do if he had his heart in it - unfortunately, he rarely did (and I'm a fan of some of his work - the 70's were good, the 80's were horrid, the 90's were straight-up porn flicks). The cinematography is excellent (remember, that's what he started as before becoming a director), the editing excellent (when have you heard that about his work?), the performances and dialogue competent, and the wicked filth and envelope-pushing exploitation elements extraordinary. Shocking, sinful, explicit and erotic, yet never insulting. The best flick of nostalgic nunnery naughtiness collected herein.
'The Nun of Monza', by Bruno Mattai, is good nunsploitation, but a terrible film, like all his others - he was a hack whether doing horror, nazisploitation, pseudo-gaillos, women in prison or anything else. Incoherent storylines, bad acting, cheap sets, bad special effects, editing via chainsaw, etc., he's an embarrassment (and forgive me for speaking ill of the dead - RIP) to filmmakers everywhere. However, he always delivers ample amounts of nudity and sleaze, and has developed a following as a result, and this one's no different. 'Natch, it's the worst film here, but rest assuredly, some will love it best...
There you have it - three examples of naughty nun nasties that'll bring redemption and salvation to your cursed, wretched souls. Now get thee to a confessional...
