This is an outstanding introduction to a spirituality without religious limits, a spirituality that connects us all with each other and with the natural world. While the world is carefully avoiding references to spirituality for fear of offending, Wolf defines a universal approach with which all can agree, and which can be nurtured in our classrooms. Our children's need for this connection is vital to their well-being, to their consciousness of their inner and whole selves, and to their becoming caring stewards of the earth. Wolf makes clear the opportunity for this connection in the Montessori system of education. It is at the core of our work at Roots and Wings Montessori School in Surrey, BC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and needed in our educational system Aug 31 2008
By A. Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
All educators need to read this book. This book is about what our schools are missing - the nurturing and tending of children as whole beings. School's first and foremost job should be raising a human being, not just academic content. Although written by a Montessorian, this book is applicable to all styles of education and would be helpful to the home educator and parent as well. Highly recommended.

Format:Paperback
I am so happy to have this book in my collection. As a teacher, it is difficult to pore through dense books, and this one is layed out in a way that is easy to digest, so I love that. I have implemented several ideas in my classroom already and hope to incorporate more in the future...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare, Insightful Book For All Teachers of Young Children Oct 13 2010
By Cathleen R. Haskins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I first read this book in 1998, when I was the implementing teacher for a public Montessori school in Wisconsin, and I was seeking peace activities for my students. Aline Wolf provides concrete ideas for nurturing the spirit of the child and promote peaceful ways of thinking and living, all flowing out of a philosophy of peace and the unfolding of a child's potential.

For me, this book served as the impetus for a peace curriculum I was later to develop and use in both public and private elementary classrooms. I have taken this book to many workshops and school in-services for both preschool and elementary teachers. It is my number one recommendation for those teachers who strive to cultivate the peace-loving spirit of the child.
