About the Author

Bob Seebohar, MS, RD, CSCS, is a practicing sports dietitian who specializes in working with endurance athletes. He has been a competitive endurance athlete for more than 15 years and has competed in all types and distances of endurance sports, including five Ironman races. He is a professional endurance coach and is the owner and operator of ATP Coaching, which provides coaching and sports nutrition services to endurance sport athletes of all ages and abilities. He lives in Boulder, Colorado.

Bob's 2nd edition of nutrition periodization gives you all the tools to apply the strategy to a variety of sports. No matter what level of athlete you are, the book covers optimal fueling plans for everyone striving for peak health and performance. Written based on science, yet explained in easy to understand terms, charts, food lists, "Fuel Tips" and "Fuel Stories".

Bob does an outstanding job explaining the fuel demands of each training period and the "how to" meet those demands by adjusting your nutrition throughout the year. He also explains key concepts that work synergistically with nutrition periodization; body composition, weight management, metabolic efficiency, and maintaining a healthy immune system.

The book also goes above and beyond nutrition periodization and offers guidance on supplementation, nutrition travel tips, understanding inflammation, iron deficiency and sweat and sodium losses. Bob's vast knowledge and years of experience working with all types of athletes as a sports dietitian, coach and exercise physiologist are unique, as is this book. Bob also practices what he preaches, as an athlete himself; he understands the art of sports nutrition - real life challenges outside the science box. He keeps it simple and real, teaching you how to use an effective nutrition strategy that works.

As a sports dietitian myself, I know nutrition periodization works - from my professional athletes to my age groupers.

This book changed my life both professionally and personally. I say "life" because I feel that nutrition is the backbone for all daily activities! I am a registered dietitian, a triathlete, a mother of four, and a triathlon coach. Before utilizing this book I ate very well and was very active, I raced a lot and did well. Once I read Bob's theory and well-written account of nutrition periodization and metabolic efficiency it all clicked for me. I made some minor changes in what I was eating, and the timing of my eating and finally followed a nutrition periodization plan. All of a sudden I had endless amounts of energy, I was running faster and I felt stronger than ever! I improved my body composition, and increased my endurance. Most importantly, I no longer had any GI distress on my long runs (something that had plagued me for a number of years).

I had used Bob's original edition of this book for a while but feel that the updated version is so much more comprehensive and detailed. I use this book along with his Metabolic Efficiency book in my every day practice with both nutrition clients (weight loss, diabetes, cardiovascular patients) and with all of my athletes (runners, Triathletes, tennis players, lacrosse players, hockey players etc...)

I highly recommend this book and "lifestyle" to anyone and everyone-both professionally and/or personally. The truth is in the results. Try it for yourself and you will know exactly what I mean.

Great book adn very informative. I am graduating with my B.S. in Dietetic sand working on my graduate degree in human nutrition and I still use this book! excellent!
