Janet's venture into comedy...!!, Mar 10 2008
This review is from: Nutty Professor II: The Klumps [Uncensored] (Widescreen) (DVD)
Eddie Murphy once again slaps on the fat suit to play Sherman Klump. And Mama Klump, and Big Daddy Klump, and Grandma Klump, and Brother Klump, and Buddy Love (although without the fat suit on that one). Since the Klump dinner scene was easily the best scene in the original film, they decided to focus on the entire family in the sequel. And got Janet Jackson to fall in love with Sherman. While the movie still focuses on Sherman and his quest for love and scientific goals (this time making people younger), the rest of the family gets involved in the story lines. The horny Grandmother Klump story line was very funny (talking about her "relations"). The story line with Sherman and Buddy, about how Buddy was still inside Sherman, and Sherman managed to get him out, only to have Buddy come to life, and then Sherman is becoming more stupid by the minute and will go into a vegetable state unless he eats Buddy. It's all very cheesy. I mean come on, one tear from Janet's character, Denise, manages to bring Sherman back to life? It was all very corny. But it works!! I thought the best scene was the entire Klump family going out to dinner and all the hi-jinks that ensue. And there were other funny moments scattered throughout the film, from Janet's wedding dress fitting, to Sherman's cause-of-the-end-of-the-world dream...! Eddie Murphy is amazing, and Martin Lawrence has got nothing on dressing up as a fat woman!! The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps is something you can view when you are in the mood for some good laughs, with a heart-felt love story. Also included on the special features is the video for Janet's "Doesn't Really Matter", which is also found on the soundtrack...reason enough alone to check out this gem!!!!!

Eddie Murphy is the king of comedy, and janet is the queen of pop, excellent combination right? It somewhat works here, but the only problem is that though janet shows promise in acting, she doesn't really have a role in this film that seperates the musician from the actress, Denise Gaines doesn't have much of a personality other than clinging to Sherman and flaunting her beautiful smile. I really think she was great on Good Times and Different Strokes back in the day and the Lena Horne movie she was supposed to do looked promising, but it got scrapped. I love the theme Doesn't Really Matter that was written and sung by janet and it was nice hearing it in the movie and soundtrack, it was a big summer hit, hitting #1 for 3 weeks. Eddie Murphy on the other hand is hilarious throughout the whole movie and he beautifully plays different roles of the Klump family, each one showing a different and humorous personality. The grandma one was my favourite. I didn't think all of the jokes in the film were funny, but there were some scenes in the movie that were childish yet extremely hilarious that had me laughing the loudest in the theater. I think the first one is better, but if you're interested in getting to know the other Klump family members more, you may want to check this out. And also if you like janet jackson, you'll want to see this, but don't expect another role like the one she had in Poetic Justice.

First of all, this movie is VERY funny! Its even funnier than the first film! Whats even better, is how much the family gets involved in this movie (Eddie Murphy plays all 7 charcters!) You can't even tell that the family is all the same actor, they all seem different. get this movie! its funny as hell!
