Product Description

Cradle Of Filth first burst into the sanguine-drenched spotlight in the early 90s. Smarter, more ambitious & more fiendishly creative than any of their Norse metal counterparts, Cradle Of Filth emerged in 1991with a fully-formed & multifaceted sound; a cunning amalgam of venomous black metal & high gothic drama that immediately elevated them above their peers & grabbed the attention of the global metal community. Over the last decade, the legend of Cradle Of Filth has only grown, with sales exceeding 550,000 in the U.S. & a headlining spot on last years Ozzfest 2nd stage. In Nymphetamine, Cradle Of Filth has delivered an album that is at once their most explosive & their most accessible.

Cradle of Filth like to take chances. They enjoy changing their sound and being the everlasting subject of controversy amongst their fans. While it is true that the band started out as a British Black Metal outfit, they never truly held to the ideals of the Norwegian-ruled subgenre. Now, wedged into the highly dubious title of "extreme metal," COF decided to take a turn into a new sonic direction with NYMPHETAMINE.

Let's forget the fact that this is potentially the most inspired album title EVER. How does it sound? Well, I did get the feeling that I was hearing a bit of MIDIAN in the album, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it truly does leave behind the screeching musical violence of previous releases. Indeed, DAMNATION AND A DAY was the final nail in the coffin before Cradle decided to go into more gothic territory.

NYMPHETAMINE starts with all chambers loaded, ready for battle. A brief classical piece is cut in half by "GILDED C***" (no, I can't spell it out for you), which is the only song on the album that pays tribute to Cradle's early days. It's a wickedly vile breakup song, if I've ever heard one. From there on, Cradle slows things down with 'Nemesis', which is a rather mundane track. Things do begin to shine bright with 'Gabrielle' and 'Absinthe with Faust.' Both tracks are equals parts decadent beauty and absolute vulgar filth, which COF manages with the greatest of ease. And that's the beauty of the album. While it rages forth and spits volumetric venom with every lyric, it simultaneously switches its stance and beautifies the song like a break in the clouds.

Wow, after hearing a great release like Damnation and a Day, I never thought I'd hear an album almost right after. I was reading the Studio Reports on the website as the album was in process, they didn t even have names for the finished tracks...
They made it in less than a year, the vocals are very good, and though they are not like the one's from Cradle Of Filth's, "PRINCIPLE OF EVIL MADE FLESH" the vocals work, and they sound in great form, they suit the gothic metal nicely. The lyrics are different from DAMNATION, where as DAMNATION sounded like it came from the older days, cause it was written in a style like that, Nymphetamine is a different style. Nicely written, and worked really well!!
The music is better than it was in DAMNATION if you ask some.
It all has some really good styles and some cool solos. Piano is used and everything. It shows all the bands strenths in the studio. There are pictures through out this booklet too. Eerily tinted blue portraits of naked women in various poses, very lovely. This album is awesome! Alot disrespect it, but then there are people out there who see how good it is.
If your new to the band, this is a nice way to go... then skip DAMNATION, then buy something like CRUELTY AND THE BEAST. I have the limited edition =)
This album came at the right time, in fact I'm going to go listen to it now.

This is a decent album, far from their best yes, but better then Bitter Suites and much better then Damnation and it is probably their most accesible album that still gives you a good idea as to what they can do. The songs are decent and a few, like Nymphetamine and Coffin Fodder are pretty catchy. My favorite song off of it would probably be either Mother of Abomination of Absinthe with Faust, no particular reasons for that, just those songs stand out for me.

All in all it's a pretty good album though, but their earlier stuff is much better and if there is anyone out there that just got introduced to these guys through this disk, I would suggest checking out Midian next and going from there.

Overall I would give this about about a 3-3.5, it's decent, but as I mentioned, it's far from their best.

I would not say this is their best: I believe we have not heard their best yet!
But this is by far one of the best albums in the genre... but isn't that the case everytime COF releases an album?
If you are a fan it's a most worthy addition to the COF shrine that undoubtedly darkens your abode.
If you are not a fan or new to COF and are experimenting... not to worry, buy the CD(s) if you are into the gothic scene and like poetic/prosaic style writing mashed with hardcore, intertwining, musical pieces that will leave you afraid, exhausted, stupified, mesmerised and satisfied beyond your wildest nightmares.

As much as i love cradle which is a VERY LARGE amount, this cd isnt them. It seems as if they have made the cd for radio play. I still love the cd but am getting tired of these Nymphetamine girls talking to me like I know nothing about Cradle. If anyone else has ever heard their first E.P compare that to Nymphetamine and you will know what I mean about how much they have changed. Now dont get me wrong I still love Nymphetamine and will always support them, but I would suggest buying some of their older stuff before buying Nymphetamine.
