Sultry!,

This review is from: Obadiah (Audio CD)
This was such a wonderful surprise!I am a big fan of The Be Good Tanya's and have enjoyed their live performances and was a bit anxious about Frazey Ford making an album all alone... Silly me! Her voice is like dark melting velvet that can make you cry in an instant, in one song, and then she's got you belting out and toe-tapping in the next... I LOVE THIS CD... buy it... it is an investment in happiness :)

Frazey Ford on Her Own,
This review is from: Obadiah (Audio CD)
Frazy Ford, the heart and soul of the Be Good Tanyas, has struck gold with her solo album Obadiah. Her writing and singing show the same lush quality demonstrated on Tanyas CDs. She wrote most of the songs, as she did for the Tanyas albums, with -- as usual -- a little something extra; in this case, Bob Dylan's rarely heard One More Cup of Coffee. Well done.

We missed you Frazey, but it was worth the wait...,

I've had this CD less than 2 days but it has already become one of my all time favorites. Her singing is better that ever, more rhythmic, more sultry and all of her little Frazeyisms are as good or better than ever. The music has a much more soulful groove than the Tanyas, as does the singing, and the understated electric rhythm/light lead guitar really kicks it in subtly and pushes it solidly along. You can listen to it musically, vocally, think on the lyrics whatever... it works well on any, every and all levels. Her writing has matured. She was great before, but after a few years of the ups and downs of real adulthood experience, you really do have something more to say. I haven't heard a soul opened this widely since "Blue", "For the Roses" or "Blood on the Tracks". Sorry that she had to go through much of it, but glad that she could share it with us so beautifully. As Dylan once said about all of us who loved "Blood on the Tracks", "A lot of people tell me they enjoy that album. It's hard for me to relate to that. I mean, it, you know, people enjoying that type of pain, you know?" I would recommend that you grab this immediately, if not sooner. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful

I'm a Be Good Tanyas fan and was bummed when they disbanded (?). Anyhow, saw Frazey Ford was playing locally, touring behind her just released solo project. Didn't know what to expect and damn, what fine show and mesmerizing bunch of new songs. This album builds slowly, patiently and gets better with every listen. Her interest in R&B shines on many tracks. Both the melodies and the very fine lyrics just keep pulling you in. Best tracks are Lost Together, Birds of Paradise, Hey Little Mama, but they really are all quite good. Ford defies easy categorization, even moreso than the BGT, but just buy this album. You won't regret it. Sometimes it reminded me of the creative fusion of Luscious Jackson, sometimes the moodiness of the cowboy Junkies, whatever, it's very good.

Frazey has put together an awesome debut solo album from start to finish. Every song on here seems to really connect with me on so many levels. I LOVE IT. Keep up the good work Frazey!
