Product Description

From Amazon.com

Commissioned as the soundtrack for Barbet Schroeder's 1972 film The Valley, Obscured By Clouds actually holds up rather well on its own terms. The title track is a trippy, cinematic instrumental that features some searing guitar work from David Gilmour, but full-fledged songs like "Free Four" (which sounds like a morbid inversion of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky"), and the folksy "Wot's...Uh the Deal" are the real highlights of the set. Essentially a transitional work, Obscured By Clouds has long been dwarfed by Dark Side of the Moon, the album which came immediately after it. In fact, the funky "Childhood's End" and the ethereal "Burning Bridges" could well be dry runs for the Dark Side tracks "Time" and "Breathe," respectively. In all, it's a priceless snapshot of a band on the verge of immortality. --Dan Epstein

Album Description

1972 again saw the band collaborate with filmmaker Barbet Schroeder to create the soundtrack to the film La Vallee, becoming the band's seventh studio album Obscured By Clouds. The new Discovery version presents the original studio album, digitally remastered by James Guthrie and reissued with newly designed Digipak and a new 8 page booklet designed by Storm Thorgerson.

Obscured By Clouds/La Vallee by Pink Floyd
reissued mostly overlooked album by one of the greatest groups in the rock'n'roll world. this album is one of their best, unfortunately it came out and virtually went unnoticed. this album has all the great pink floyd hooks, great guitars, drums and vocals. check it out, just as good as animals, meddle, and the wall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Floyd Filmsoundtrack, May 29 2005

This soundtrack has a very mellow flow to it. I think people underrate too much. Yes, it's not WISH YOU WERE HERE, DSOTM, or THE WALL, but it is still good. You can't compare floyds works to those albums and judge it that way. Most of their other albums would get a one. It is still an amazing soundtrack. A few of my fav songs on this cd are, OBSCURED BY CLOUDS (awesome instrumental), Wots...UH THE DEAL (nice soft lyrical song very nice), STAY (I think right now my fav song on the album that could change though) If you are a true fan of floyd and arn't one of those punks that only likes them for DSOTM, you may find this album a nice compilation to your collection.

I actually give this album 10 stars. Why this album does not get more acclaim is beyond me. I couldn't phathom a Pink Floyd collection without this album. My favorite tracks: "Burning Bridges" and "Mudmen"-both romantic and soulfull! "Mudmen" is a track that continues the tune originated in "Burning Bridges" but is essentially a bluesy guitar solo by Gilmore. I Love You Dave!
