1.0 out of 5 stars Becomes the Beyonce show, Aug 17 2009

This review is from: Obsessed (2009) (DVD)
The storyline for this film is nothing new. However, Ali Larter's performance as a deluded psycho is pretty decent. The worry that I had in my head while watching the film was that Knowles would be rammed down out throats further into the film, this happened at the end and Idris Elba (who the film originally centered itself around) becomes less than insignificant at the end.
Just another vehicle for Beyonce Knowles's self-obsessed (pun-intended) bandwagon to hitch itself to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beyonce's in the house and in control, Jan 6 2012

This review is from: Obsessed (2009) (DVD)
If you look at the original poster picture cover it's clear that the star of this movie is intended to be Beyonce. She appears front and center in the picture, and the actor playing her husband has most of the top half of his head chopped off, and we only see profile.

In the movie, the camera shows her in close up more than the other characters. Her husband played excellently by Idris Elba has a small head, and when the camera pans across her to see him his head looks even smaller. In addition we seem to see more zoomed in shots of Beyonce.

Sexy hot new temp Lisa (Ali Larter) gets it bad for happily married exec Derek. Wife Sharon (Beyonce) goes on hyper alert. "Is she pretty?" she asks. "Pretty plain," he says. Oh oh.

As you probably can imagine the innocent relationship takes a turn, as Lisa pursues Derek. There is nothing she won't do to get what she wants, and the situation spirals out of control in unexpected ways. Will Derek give in to temptation or tell his wife what's going on?

Obsessed delivers solid entertainment, and the fight scene between between Beyonce and Ali Larter is one of the best girl fights you'll see. "You think you're crazy? You ain't seen crazy, bitch!"

Beyonce acting in Dreamgirls and the Austin Powers movie was singer playing singer. Her acting seemed unnatural. Her facial expressions vacant, her emotions not quite right. In an interview somewhere she said she was taking acting lessons. In Obsessed she shows remarkable improvement, conveying the emotions she portrays very well. A convincing performance with room still to grow.

Although Beyonce is the star, Ali Larter is a dreamgirl, and it requires some supsension of disbelief to imagine anyone resisting her. The three actors play excellently, although the camera favors Beyonce, it's not at the expense of the story. No surprise to learn that Beyonce and her Dad are both executive producers on Obsessed.

I think you will love this movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars A totaly bad rip off of Fatal Attraction!, Aug 10 2009

When I saw the trailer for this I knew it was a rip off of Fatal Attraction but all my friends said Obsessed was good. So I decided to watch it. Man oh man its bad! Its not as scary or dramtic as Fatal Attraction and if you wanna see crazy watch that. The obsessed women in this is nothing compared to the one in FA. And this movie seems unrealistic in her obsession. Unlike FA it seems more really and convincing. Skip this and watch FATAL ATTRACTION then OBSESSED and you will see my point of view. Hollywood needs to stop rippin off of really good movies and making crapy remakes! COME ON!
