Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

The idea of remaking the Rat Pack's infamous shaggy-dog story cum Vegas heist thriller may have seemed ludicrous without a Rat Pack. But that didn't deter ever-inventive director Steven Soderbergh, who's again wisely teamed up with not only Out of Sight star George Clooney but also that underrated project's Irish-born club mixer turned scorer David Holmes. The resulting soundtrack is a spunky, cross-cultural joyride that careens from Perry Como's "Papa Loves Mambo" to the loopy hip-hop of Handsome Boy Modeling School's "The Projects", while paying some gratifying visits to Percy Faith, Arthur Lyman, Quincy Jones, the terminally cool Claude Debussy and, of course, King Elvis along the way. Holmes' own concoctions are as smartly retro-hip and seamless, slyly intertwining cool jazz-funk and smoky cine-Muzak with some dance-floor grooves that keep the musical tension boiling. The sharp dialogue snippets that bubble throughout seem a quirky throwback to soundtracks gone by, a sometimes oversized olive in Holmes' inviting musical cocktail. --Jerry McCulley

Chronique amazon.fr

this CD is lame.... why you ask? Well, first of all some of the tracks have annoying film dialogue spliced in so if you like hearing a certain song on the track over and over, you're forced to hear the damn dialog from the film. Yeah, that's what I'd love to hear is dialog that if I wanted to listen to, I'd rewind the movie over and over... that's a nuisance, but worse, is the fact that there are about 3 or 4 tracks that were played in the film that are missing here. explanation? who knows, shame on WB for churning out this crappy cd. You'd figure there are certain tracks on the cd that are only 5 second long dialog sequences from the film, that they'd be able to fit in some of the MUSIC from the movie not the damn dialog. Regardless, there are tracks missing and if I want to listen to them, I have to watch the movie... very dissapointing do not give this cd any chance

perfect as it is an actual soundtrack Sep 27 2009

By throwing in sound clips from the movie between tracks, this album flows like an album should. David Holmes' instrumental tracks sure take you into that whole hip/cool mode the movie played on.

Just for Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation" it's worth picking this up.

Please re-release with ALL tracks in instrumental format Jun 5 2004

The music in Ocean's Eleven is nothing short of brilliant, but this soundtrack release is a let-down. The issues:

1. dialogue inserted over music (not necessarily matching where it landed in the movie)
2. music is missing (where's the cool intro tune where Clooney gets out of jail?)
3. tracks are typically incomplete (either fade out or get cut off)

Not that there's any chance of a re-release, but it would be nice to have all the orginally scored music in its complete, instrumental form.

OH YEAH!
ok, these people are out of their freakin' minds- "oh! there's too much dialouge" or "oh!, I'm rating this two stars!".... well I'm through. Read more

Too Much Movie Dialog
This confusing, contradictory mishmash of musical styles and movie dialog is a disappointment. It strikes me there's some production inside joke or theme going on here, yet we... Read more

Not great
I don't mind the dialogue on this CD, but it would be better if it were separated from the music a little more...

David's Musical Eclecticism applied to a movie soundtrack

Could have been better
I was expecting the cool music from the movie, not dialogue excerpts with background music. All it needed was the chime so you could turn the page...

Fun music, great for a cocktail party
Sweet retro grooves, mixed with some upbeat hip-hop and calming cocktail rhythms. This is great music for a party, swelling from easy DeBussy to the pumping beats of Jurassic Five... Read more

Disappointing?
I picked up this album looking to add the cool filler tracks used in the movie's score (you know the jazzy upbeat riffs) into my MP3 player mixes. Read more
