Ocean's Twelve (DVD) (WS)

Amazon.ca

Like its predecessor Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve is a piffle of a caper, a preposterous plot given juice and vitality by a combination of movie star glamour and the exuberant filmmaking skill of director Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Limey). The heist hijinks of the first film come to roost for a team of eleven thieves (including the glossy mugs of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, and Don Cheadle), who find themselves pursued not only by the guy they robbed (silky Andy Garcia), but also by a top-notch detective (plush Catherine Zeta-Jones) and a jealous master thief (well-oiled Vincent Cassel) who wants to prove that team leader Danny Ocean (dapper George Clooney) isn't the best in the field. As if all that star power weren't enough--and the eternally coltish Julia Roberts also returns as Ocean's wife--one movie star cameo raises the movie's combined wattage to absurd proportions. But all these handsome faces are matched by Soderbergh's visual flash, cunning editing, and excellent use of Amsterdam, Paris, and Rome, among other highly decorative locations. The whole affair should collapse under the weight of its own silliness, but somehow it doesn't--the movie's raffish spirit and offhand wit soar along, providing lightweight but undeniable entertainment. --Bret Fetzer

1.0 out of 5 stars arrogant and ego driven May 1 2005

Format:DVD
If i could give this movie a negative star rating, i would. I cannot believe that american actors who i had some respect for actually took themselves to this kind of artistic level. The plot had too many holes, the story jumped around too much without the excitement most people expected.
The final caper was boring and it just seemed like all these actors did just want to get together in Europe and have a good time. Although i am sure if i went to Europe with my friends with a camcorder i could produce a more exciting and well made film then this.
This film showed how arrogant and disrespectful Americans can be especially with the constant references to the fact that the other theif was French. I hail from Canada and am proud of our French culture and have a lot of respect for France.
Just because France didn't go to war with U.S. and Britain does not mean you denounce their entire country in a movie in an arrogant manner. American claims to be the land of the free but not free thinking. A lot countries including Canada did not go or were against the war in Iraq but the director should have been smarter about that type of comment. Respect should be a minimum espcially such a large scale movie such as this.
Sorry to turn this political but I was quite offended by that comment and the movie in general. It shows the decline of American society and film industry. Its not too late for the country and the film industry to put some effort into their movies not just money and high profile actors.
I have offically switched to foreign films, a lot more depth and you won't see them holding a coca cola can in your face.
to clense your mind of this movie i suggest, House of the Flying Daggers.
Thanks and just because your watching a movie don't mean you have to turn your brain off, stay thirsty.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!!! A MUST SEE!! Sept. 8 2006
Format:VHS Tape
this was an amazing show. Especially when he goes through the lazers to get to the egg. George Clooney is Hallarious and the 2 that fight all the time are so funny. The ending was a great surprise. Izzy Izzard, was a great surprise, very funny.I thought this was a great movie, seen it lots. I even liked it better than the first one. The only complaint is the whole Julie Roberts thing...but it's not really that bad.

Can't wait for the 3rd one. My fav. movies are: Goodfellas, Made, Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, 40 year Old Virgin, Napolean Dynomite, Man on fire, Me, Myself, and Irene, Weekend at Bernies,Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Tv: Rescue Me, The Shield, Seinfeld, House, Raymond, Will and Grace...

Hopefully if you have the same taste as me, you'll get Oceans 12...totally worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible! April 18 2005

Format:DVD
I rented Ocean's Twelve this weekend, expecting all of the fun and excitement of Ocean's Eleven. Wrong! It was horrible! The entire movie dragged, the plot was weak, the capers lacked imagination and.. the final caper? Please! I don't want to ruin it for anyone who still wants to see this movie, but I will say that Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis make cameos in the movie (think of who is starring in the actual movie and then figure it out!). In interviews, the actors seemed to have had a great time getting back together and hanging out in Europe (and I'm sure the large salaries didn't hurt), so at least something good came out of the film. I am very glad that I didn't buy this film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh... what a predictable (and boring) film... March 27 2006

Format:DVD
I do not know how they could ruin such a great oppurtunity, especially since Ocean's Eleven was such a good movie. The acting was not as good as the first and the storyline was so predictable and so boring I can't help but scoff at there attempts to make a good movie.
Well, for those who don't know, there is a chance they may make an Ocean's Thirteen (13 is not a lucky number,) and hopefully they'll redeem this crap-tastic film in the next, if they decide to do it. But, take my advice, skip this film and go buy Ocean's Eleven. That was a good movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun the actors, no story for the audience. April 18 2005
Format:DVD
The first movie was decent. Definitely kept me interested, and I loved the sting in the end. To continue it without a logical reason just seems to be a waste. Just the fact that they could get so many good actors to involve themselves with this is ridiculous.
I'm much more surprised in that Steven Soderburgh did such a terrible job of directing this. Too bad for him, he did such a wonderful job with "Traffic", "Out of Sight" and so on...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth your time.. April 21 2005

This movie is just horrible. The story line is boring and predictable. The cast features many wonderful actors, but this sadly does not result in anything worth seeing. I am surprized that I actually watched the entire movie...
