ODD INDEED...,

While I loved the first book involving the character Odd Thomas, I confess that I did not love this one, which is the fourth in the series of books featuring this character. Although the book offers some new, likable characters and is filled with screwball humor, the book itself falls flat. This is probably due to the plot, which somehow just does not make the cut. In fact, the entire book seems to drag, which is always a bad sign.The book is also in need of a good editor, as there are some minor inconsistencies. The plot also seems unfocused and less than compelling. While some of the characters are intriguing, they are never fleshed out and pass out of sight as quickly as they are introduced. Moreover, one of the main characters, Annamaria, for whom Odd seems to risk all, is so one dimensional that it makes the reader wonder why he would risk anything at all on her behalf. I am a big fan of the author, but this is definitely not one of his best.

Odd Thomas is an immediately likeable character and, regardless of his supernatural abilities, his circumstances are always such that you can relate to them, in terms of how you would react if you were somehow stuck in the same situation. More than once I found myself smiling wide at the pages of this book, reading a quirky description of a bad guy, or a quick-witted comment of the title character. This book may not meet the expectations of all critics, but for the vast majority of readers, it will satisfy and entertain. I can't wait to see how the author continues the saga. There are a few loose ends, which will inevitably lead to more installments in the series.

I was so looking forward to another Odd Thomas book, he is my favorit character of all time. I didn't like the beginning. Koontz jumped right in and it didn't feel right. I never in my life read so many different ways to discribe fog or anything else. The story is on the side of boring. This book is writen in a between format which gives me hope that the next one will be fill with answers about Annamaria, the dogs and the Happy monster.I have one advice for Koontz, take your time, we will wait for you. Odd is a good character.
