Album Description

Composed to celebrate the birthday of Queen Anne of England, Handel's Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne was subtitled 'Ode for Peace" in reference to the Treaty of Utrecht which marked the end of the War of the Spanish Succession. Handel also brought the techniques of Italian opera to his composition, Dixit Dominus. These performances feature the Award-winning counter-tenor, Andreas Scholl as primary soloist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne Dixit Dominus, Mar 16 2011
By Bjorn Viberg - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Ode For The Birthday Of Queen (Audio CD)
Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne Dixit Dominus is a recording under the direction of Marcus Creed who leads the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin on this harmonia mundia s.a. recording from 2009. The piece itself was composed to celebrate the birthday pf Queen Anne of England I must say that I myself would like to have such a wonderful composition in my honour but this is only bestowed on the few of extreme power. Klaus-Martin Bresgott has written the liner-notes (translated by Charles Johnston). These are both very informative and well-written. We also get very fine photographs from the time of the recording. The lyrics are available in French, English and German for the Ode and for the Dixit Dominus also in Latin. Highly recommended indeed. 5/5.
