God's Love Explained!, April 18 2004
This review is from: Oh My God! Are You Talking to Me? (Paperback)
I found the book to be an interesting treatise on love from a Biblical perspective. The subject is approached from a several uncommon angles which brings some fresh insight into the subject of love and relationships. It is easy to read since it is in conversation format...a discussion between God and an ordinary man. From my own personal Christian background, I find a few statements that conflict with what I believe the Bible teaches. I think, however, that this is not deliberate on the author's part but these are areas where more explanation should have been given. For example: "Man can BE God" on page 22. Again on pages 218-220 the author makes statements about the Word (Jesus) being "begat", "existent", "became" and "formed" which all imply "beginning". This is inconsistent with Bible teaching from which the author quotes extensively. The use of the words "Nirvana" (meaning success, well-being, and good fortune) and "koan" implies Eastern religious influence mixed in with Christianity. Twenty-five statements on pages 67-68 and the Chapter 6 "The Twelve Reasons Why Man Exists" is an excellent resource for those seeking knowledge about "Why we are here in the world." Oddly, there are two pages 111-112 in the middle of the book entitled "Some Sample Questions." While these are excellent questions most people ask themselves, there seems to be no explanation about them or their purpose nor are there any references made to them. No direct answers to these questions are provided by the author either from his own experience or by way of suggestions. Overall, this book is a good read, is informative, and, I think, captures God's thinking about us (and very possibly, from God's point of view).

I asked Jesus about this book, Mar 18 2004
This review is from: Oh My God! Are You Talking to Me? (Paperback)
When I saw a book by an author who claims to have talked with Jesus, I didn't bother reading any "customer reviews." I took my questions to the Man himself. I asked our Lord and Savior if He had heard of the book's author, Peniel G.G.G. He rolled His eyes, scratched His beard (long and flowing, but not at all unkempt), muttered something about the name being "pretentious," then held a torn, tattered copy of the Bible directly in front of my face. "This is the way I speak to man!" His holy voice thundered. "Through the Word, and through the Holy Spirit!" Jesus didn't deny that God talks to His followers - He certainly does - but it's through the Holy Spirit whose words cannot be transcribed, then passed around for the perusal of others. It's more of an "unseen hand" kind of thing, a feeling in one's heart. Plus God's main communique with His creations is the Good Book, the one that warns of consorting with demons, as well as mocking God which I believe one does when reducing Him to some weird sort of Dear Abby figure. Has the author been deceived? Don't forget that Satan can transform his lying self into an angel of light, so do not be fooled by bearded spirits that visit you in the night. Someone who claims to have had direct conversations, bull sessions of all things, with the Almighty, is either possessed by demons, is lying, or is just plain nuts, almost as absurd as that blasphemous old coot Andy Rooney who claims God does not speak to men at all and obviously doesn't believe in the Supreme Being. (God probably doesn't speak to Andy, at least not anymore, because by now the old fool has hardened his heart and is beyond listening.) I wouldn't tell anyone not to buy this book (I didn't and won't) because I didn't read it (and won't which is why I gave it two stars rather than ranking it too low or too high). But based on its description, I think I'm right that one should beware of its contents and the claims of its author.

I can't finish reading this book although I love it?, Mar 10 2004
This review is from: Oh My God! Are You Talking to Me? (Paperback)
I also bough my book through Amazon (I like to have a real paper copy to read in bed) but I too found it very interesting that this suppossedly religious type author actually offers the book for free. Kinda lends some creedence to his claims, in my book... I have only read a few chapters of this book, for some reason everytime I try to read some more, something always comes up and I ain't able to continue reading it. It's really weird, like it was a curse of something. But, what I already read is really good stuff. THe first chapter, on LOVE, is just beautiful. I had always heard that too, but I don't think I never understood it as clear as this guy makes it. I think it was a little repeated too much, but it was probably to stress the point in different ways, I guess... All in all, so far, it's really a great book - I can't wait to get through the rest of it. Joeseph Hurtz
