Jill Barber (www.jillbarber.com) is a Toronto-based singer songwriter. Her brother is Matthew Barber also an excellent musician himself. Jill Barber is formerly of the group Bent Ivy. After her group broke up she struck out as a solo performer wih her no longer available album A note to follow solo (2002). In early 2004 she released Oh Heart.Oh Heart is a great album because of Jill's versatile voice which is a nice blend of jazz, folk and cabaret. If you like Sarah Harmer's great lyrics and smooth voice or Norah Jones easy listening sounds. You will enjoy Jill Barber because she has elements of both in her music. I compare her voice to these two great musician but her voice is unique. Her young voice is very mature, she can croon on tracks like Measures & Scales and Nothing on Me. While on other tracks she can express sadness without being depressed on A7th Minor, Oh Heart and In Perfect Time. My only complaint is the album is only six tracks long. The album is so good, you end up wanting more. She performs solo acoustic sets across Canada and she is excellent live. You SHOULD she her live because her voice is just as good live.

Amazingly Feels Like Home!,

Jill Barber ranks high in my opinion as a true, honest, down-to-earth performer who does not rely on high-tech/computer generated, comercially mass-produced sounds that seem to be the way of the our time. The real emotion and talent demonstrated by Jill and the mucicians are a tribute to the technicians, composers, producers, arrangers, production crew, clerical staff and a host of others responsible for producing this fine example of great Canadian music that we should all be proud of. Top marks for every component of the cd.

Does a great Lucinda Williams...although not on this cd. I see her play in Halifax a few times a year and she is definitely one of my favorite female artists. Cool, smokey, quiet yet powerful haunting voice.
