Book Description

November 2002
Dianne Christner has written four stories of one family that lived and loved in the untamed Ohio wilderness at the dawn of the nineteenth century. Three young girls are orphaned as Native Americans fight to maintain their hold on the Ohio wilderness. While Kate, the oldest, struggles to maintain her parents' faith in her sisters, Annabelle wants nothing more than to leave the wilderness and go east, and Claire is swept up in a man's flight from murder charges. What will these young women learn to pass on to the next generation? Will there be hope left for the future?

I finished reading "Ohio" last night and enjoyed it thoroughly! The author weaves the four stories together relating characters with passion and depth. I particularly enjoyed the author's lighter, funnier touch in the last story featuring Dr. David Wheeler and his true love Josephine (Josie) Cline. They are both such eccentric characters, time just flew as I enjoyed their struggle against the truth that their paths were destined to be together. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did - I love all the Barbour anthologies and highly recommend them! -Deb from Nashville...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Thoroughly Entertaining Read! Jun 20 2005
By Busy Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you like to read Christian-inspired novels and if you also like to read historical novels, this book is for you! This book compiles four novels of four young couples at the beginning of the 1800s ~~ when Ohio is a new statehood. It is set in the surrounding areas of Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The three sisters, Kate, Annabelle and Claire, all were orphaned at an early age when their parents were killed by Indian raiders. They were taken in by Mattie, who has secrets of her own. The first three novels talk about Kate, Annabelle and Claire ~~ and their relationships with certain men in their lives. The fourth novel is focused on Claire's stepson, Dr. David Wheeler who falls in love with one of the city's foremost workers, Josephine Cline. Their story happens 30 years later.

The stories are sweet and simple ~~ any teenager who loves to read love stories can read these. There are no explicit scenes in the book ~~ and every woman is unique in her own way. They all are Christian and the book is written like Beverly Lewis' books ~~ Christian and beautiful.

I found it interesting since I have lived around the cities they have mentioned in this book and it's nice to be able to read of some historical facts on Ohio.

This is a perfect book for any woman who wants to escape for awhile in a different time and world.
