This is a very nice rod reel combo. I do mostly salmon trolling with down rigger in the ocean.they are well built for the price.rod is medium action very soft which help when fighting fish.I would buy another set for guess in the boat.

I used it for salt water fishing of a pier. I have used braids & monofilament with the same problem, backlash. I'm used to bait casting & did not have much trouble with my other reels. Backlash is a potential problem with all bait cast reels & it is normal to have 1 occasionally even if you are experienced but the reel on this rod backlashes about 30-40% of the time. the only feature I like about this reel is the line counter but this becomes a moot point when your line is all in knots.
