Got this printer about a month ago and have been extremely happy about it so far!

- Very fast to start and print. It's always on "sleep" mode by default, so it takes approximately 5 seconds to go from printing on your computer to having the paper in front of you.
- Duplex printing is a god-send. You can set it to automatically print duplex, or manually if you'd like (why?). Haven't had any paper jams and duplex printing is very fast as well.
- Scanning and copying is easy. You can scan and copy documents with a few clicks, so that's something to be desired.
- Huge paper tray. Unlike Inkjets, this laser printer has a fairly large paper tray, so you can load it once and forget about it for a while.

- It takes up a lot of room on the desk, so this may not be for you if you don't have too much extra space.
- No included printer cable, so add on another $10 to the price.

A speedy, networked printer for a very reasonable price, which is fantastic.

After 2.5 months of use, the following things are clear.

You will need toner every 2000 pages, as advertised. Toner is around $60 new from Brother. The workarounds for ignoring low toner are easy to find.

Drum Unit

After around 10,000 pages, you will need a new drum unit, and there are around $100. This was not a cost I was anticipating.

Otherwise, a great dependable product. Very few jams.

For a laser printer, I think it is a good deal. The printer works fine; its not loud and the speed is average. Automatic duplex printing is a big plus. The papers don't get stuck, at least they haven't got stuck yet. I printed out about 200 pages, most of them in 'toner save mode' and still the toner ran out pretty fast. This despite the advert that the initial toner lasts for about 700 pages!. And once the toner runs out (with the message 'replace toner'), you can't print anymore unlike in an ink-jet printer where you can take out the cartridge and jiggle it about to squeeze out a few more pages (or even boil it!).
So, I have ordered a new toner which is supposed to be good for 2500 pages. Lets see if it lives up to that promise.
The printer is large/heavy with a rather tight cover lid (on the scanner/copier). It consumes quite a bit of power for when it turns on, you can see other lights get dim for a second. But that is not a problem for me. The multiple page scanning is pretty cool and the copying feature is also good.
All in all, a good printer provided the toners keep up to what is promised. My final appreciation of this printer will depend on if the new toner is able to last for at least 2000 pages...and the papers don't start getting stuck. Papers getting stuck and expensive cartridges was the main reason I switched from HP ink jets to this laser printer. Of course, automatic duplexing was a big plus too.

Amazon deliver was amazing. They sent it by courier. Given its weight and size, that must have cost quite a bit.

Here is my story - after one month of using it - it is a very good for home or small office or home office.

If you already have a WiFi router or DSL Internet modem (+ router) you can place this Brother near it and connect them with Ethernet cable. And here you are, you have a Brother with WiFi capabilities.

Also I have found this very useful because you do not need to buy printer cable as earlier one of the customer has mentioned. But of course you have to have Ethernet cable which is generally provided with modems.

I have some experience with multifunctional's. And it is an interesting fact about some computer peripheral hardware that now I can get more multifunctional and cheaper device than 2 or 3 years ago.

I bought it at $119 (and now it is $99 as of 9/10/2013!), which was really a great deal for its functions.

The key features driving the purchase are Auto-duplex, built-in scanner and as a laser printer. Apart from the ordinary toner cartridge, a high yield version is available such that we can save some bucks when we still wanna stick to the genuine supplies.

But still there are some short comings affecting me that you may need to pay attention to:
-This printer, at the moment, has no support for WIndows Server 2012, that is unfortunately my case where I am using the printer with my workstation. Though if you know how this can be solved easily by getting a virtual machine with W7/8 or any other supported OS.
-When it is first turned on, and during operation, it draws considerable amount of current that may set your main supply to fluctuate. My house is kind of old and this becomes something observable. The lights simply flickers a bit, my UPS kicks in, turning on and off a few times during the printing. While this maybe common to all laser printers which are supposed to draw a lot current, but you may need to consider an inkjet if you want to avoid it.
-Finally, the default printing contrast is quite low, I tried to print some photos on my computers and it turned out to be a black picture. I am not sure if this can be tuned, but at least you shouldn't expect to print pictures well by default, even black and white only.
