4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful recounting of the road from surgeon to servant., Sep 26 1998
This review is from: On Call (Paperback)
In a world ripped apart by war, a missionary couple is killed. Their son begins a long road to wards college, medical school and eventually surgical training, in order to return to the mission field where his parents died. Along the way he discovers God's hand working all around him. The path he follows leads far from his dream and in an honest and candid style, the author reveals his disappointment and frustration. There are valuable lessons learned in the process about sacrifice, servanthood, joy and commitment. ON CALL is peppered with stories that reflect a keen sense of humor.

An "easy read" that will challenge an uplift.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite missionary story!, Jan 28 2010
By Martha A. - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: On Call (Paperback)
This missionary story is so real life and full of what really happens on the mission field along with some great humor. David Thompson was a child of missionaries and became a doctor and went to africa to serve.....I loved the way he writes as it makes you feel like you were there and they were real people, instead of stuffy missionaries doing stuff we could never do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changer book!, April 24 2010
By M. Morman "dusty lover" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: On Call (Paperback)
Dr. Thompson's service and ministry (and his last-chapter message) have shown me that I can be and AM an authentic "minister". God can and does use us believers to minister to people's hearts as "we respond to human need as we encounter it". I am involved in several civic pursuits and do it simply because there is a need. Even though I'm not directly addressing people's spiritual needs, God can still use me to get to their hearts!
