Not just for physicians!,

This review is from: On Call Principles and Protocols: On Call Series (Paperback)
This is an excellent easily accessible pocket reference for problem-based patient assessment. It is designed for on call physicians and residents who are snorring in the sleep room when called to respond on the floor to a patient with a problem. Probably the best feature of this book is the "elevator thoughts" component of each chapter that amount to the list of differential diagnoses of the specific problem. While this book was designed for physicians I have used it for many years as an Advanced CAre Paramedic - same problems (for the most part) same DD's. If I have any criticism of the book it is that it lacks currency in evidence-based treatments and grows old fast. However, that is not really its intention or purpose. Enjoy!

This book is fabulous for medical students and first-year residents on call. It is a bit formulaic, but at 3am when the nurse has just woken you up and your brain's not working, it's great to follow until you get reoriented. Each chapter is a medical problem such as "seizure" or "chest pain", and the first page is always broken down into information you can get from the nurse on the phone, and then "elevator thoughts", which is essentially the differential, and how to proceed with diagnosis. This is not a book about details, but is excellent for helping you (and your patients) make it through the night!

Good for junior primary care who is eager to learn and know details about each case during the call... I love the book , but wish if written in a way with more tables or summary boxes ... However it's still worthy to have it
